Kachin News reports that the Burmese government carried out airstrikes on Kachin rebel positions on Tuesday, despite the fact that the warring parties are due to hold ceasefire talks. The news outlet alleged that “government aircraft attacked KIO [Kachin Independence Organization] positions along China’s border near Pangwa. It is unclear if any KIO staff were injured or killed during the attack.†The report provided no further details for the claim and did not cite any sources. Pangwa town is located in northeastern Kachin State. Fighting in Kachin State has quieted down since Feb. 4 when government negotiators held talks with KIO leaders. Another meeting is reportedly scheduled to take place soon.
