Thai Man To Kill Me

I suppose they'll be anxious to make sure they get the right man when

the time comes. There's maybe been too many cases of the wrong bloke

jumping off a balcony or whatever.

Might be as well to check with the other farangs, before it's too late...

I'd like to know if anyone anywhere in LOS has had a similar experience? Particularly in Nakhon Si Thammarhat?

Mods, please put this back in GENERAL.

My wife is a Nakhon girl. She calls it bandit country. I like the folks there, and always enjoy our trips there.

So, I'm the only one on this forum who has been subjected to this alleged new policy of some unnamed bigwig wanting info on all foreigners?

You're the only one left.

EDIT: Have you found out who is the bigwig who is after you? It might not be too late to talk your way out of it.

You'll notice, I've changed my avatar, though, just in case...

Word of advice to the OP - in future if you want your story to be taken seriously (and try to get some serious responses) - then it might pay to approach it in the same manner.

After reading your first post again just now - I still think it belongs in pub. It is written like a joke. Seriously - read it.

Aside from the wording, finishing it off with...

made it appear even more like some tale of expat life in Thailand. Then again, that's just my opinion. coffee1.gif

No, you are not the only one, when I first moved here many moons ago, the police would go around every year checking out the western residents, never gave a reason when asked apart from "we want to know" ..... haven't done it for about three years though now.

Do they not ask you who you are when you go for your 90 day reporting? Or is that normally quite brief and impersonal?

Good to know. Thanks.

Sure, but that's immigration.

This is the local keystone boys.

Fair enough. You wouldn't want the immigration dept handing out your details to whatever bandit turned up with sunglasses and a gun.

You girlfriends should use her Jedi mind trick.

'You don't need to see his identification'

'Move along'

Kidding aside.

It is the same reason police in the west love giving tickets. It is easy and makes money. Why go after criminals and risk getting killed and it also costs money.

Much easier to live a comfortable long live by bothering people that pose no risk.

Collecting information saves work later.

And think of all the possibilities what can be done with that database.

Your life is more exiting than mine,

my life can be summed up with paying rent & drinking milk.

"Exiting?"

Okay, what do you know?

Nup that's racist sorry. What only local falling need to be in their database? What about outsiders that visit? Not even Australians are that racist.

Same for me out in the sticks. They even left a telephone number in the event I needed help!

Police came here about 2 hours ago. Just one of them, out of uniform. I know him, not a bad bloke. Asked to see my passport and took some details down.

Maybe they're planning a purge...

Go to the Police headquarters in your area with your wife and ask the top cop what it is all about, if it's Immigration do the same there. If they say they know nothing about it, go to the newspapers, they will be glad to splash the rubbish over the front page.

I've been reading the news paper obituary columns daily to see if HeijoshinCool is still with us, or if he has mysteriously jumped out of high hotel window somewhere.

Please let us know if you are still here, HeijoshinCool.

How many have we lost?

How many have we lost?

Many according to the Pattaya papers. They are landing on the pavement in big numbers. Splat, there goes another one.

Yep - reports of his death have been greatly exaggerated. By him, mainly.

Some of those could be the wrong bloke, if the police in Pattaya are not as thorough and careful as their colleagues in Nakhon.

One would hate to fall off a balcony just because one bore a passing resemblance to another farang.

We should be praising the efficacy and care of the Nakhon police,

Yup, But I'm finally headed out tomorrow for a short vacation where there aren't any tall buildings.

Geez, one little funning poke about googling and he's stalking me.

So long as he doesn't follow you out on to the balcony

T'other half says they are supposed to do the check every year. So I think it's more a case of when they can be arsed. The BIB know where I am by now I should think.

In theory, everyone resident here is already in a database (the 90 day reporting thing) so it sounds more like you've got something local going on... and though it could be well-meaning (somebody died and we don't know how to contact the embassy, etc.) it also could be misused. However, it isn't unusual for foreigners resident in various countries to undergo more scrutiny than the average local.

Only thing going on here is a new Nai Amphur is due. So it could be the police making sure the books are in order if he checks on them.
