BANGKOK, March 14 – Toyota Motor Thailand will close its car assembly operations on April 5 to cooperate with the government’s plea on energy savings, according to the company’s top executive.

President Kyoichi Tanaka announced that Toyota's three assembly plants will be suspended, to be substituted on May 4.

He said spare parts manufacturers in the Toyota supply chain were requested to do the same to help reduce power consumption.

Mr Tanaka said the company would be willing to cooperate with the government in using less power on April 5 to alleviate the authorities’ concern on power outage.

The Energy Ministry earlier warned the Thai public of a possible electricity shortage during April 5-14 when the Yanada platform in Myanmar, which supplies natural gas for Thailand’s power generating, will be shut down for maintenance. (MCOT online news)
