hey guys, we are travelling to Malaysia and Indonesia this weekend

will my wife need to take out a medical insurance policy, or as we are travelling to ASEAN countries, will she have medical insurance already?

i know in the EU we are covered if we have an accident in another EU country, and wondered if the same applied in ASEAN countries?

if not, can anyone recommend a good insurance company where we can get insurance for her for our two week trip?

thanks guys wai.gif

"i know in the EU we are covered if we have an accident in another EU country"

Maybe because of your UK insurance, but there is no EU rule that covers EU citizens in other EU countries. It simply depends on the insurance company.

"wondered if the same applied in ASEAN countries?"

No automatic cover outside of Thailand, you have to check the insurance policy.

Also don't forget a big part of the travel insurance is repatriation, which can get very expensive if involved in some serious problems.

Edit: from NHS website for Germany: "Your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) will enable you to access state provided healthcare in Germany at a reduced cost or sometimes free." So it appears that not all health insurance is free in EU for UK citizens (which you are judging from your nick).
