Guest endure
According to Panasonic not all versions of MotionStudio can capture through the USB port. The standard way of getting movies out of a DV recorder is through a Firewire (IEEE1394) port. You can buy a card to stick in your PC that will do the job. http://panasonic.co.jp/pavc/global/cs/soft...tionDV_faq.html

Firewire cards are only like £10 as well which makes it even better. Any reccommendations on which card i would need?
hughden
Sony Vegas includes a video capture utility which uses the USB connection. Nice software for editing your movies too!
rcm
Hi, Ulead Video Studio 9 or Cyberlink Power Director (they have a couple of newer Software now too) is nice Software to work with, unfortunately it is not free. But you might look into Pantip and find a 150 Baht Version there, if this is what you want (i don't ). rcm

Transfer rate via firewire is quite a bit faster also. As for free editing software, free is just a state of mind. About the top of the line would be Pinnacle Studio but need a lot of computing horsepower to run it. It also will read your MiniDV directly via firewire without having to use MotionStudio to do the transfer. Another is Ulead VideoStudio, less computer intensive but still allows editing clips, dubbing audio, etc. A couple of links for free editors: http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Search/video_editor.html http://desktopvideo.about.com/od/softwarer...l/bl_freesw.htm http://www.zs4.net/

My friend has a Sony DV camera with USB and Firewire. If you use the USB to move video from the camera to a PC you don't get any sound, just video As far as edting is concerned (don't laugh) Microsoft Moviemaker 2 (available as a download if you have XP with SP2 installed) is supposed to be quite good for newbies. (Doesn't the way that the latest version of the BB software concatenates separate posts into one just p*ss you off? ) Edited March 11, 2006 by endure
