The need for oil and gas is completely unnecessary taken into account the known patents for free energy that are all kept hidden from us by Corporations and Governments [most of all the US Government who has pretty much all research from people like Tesla, Schauberger or Reich classified !!!]

"known patents for free energy that are all kept hidden from us"

If it's a known patent then how can it be hidden?

>>That's me done in this threat

That's a shame as I was looking forward to finding out how the moon landings were faked and how 911 was a CIA conspiracy

Don't forget the chem trails or HAARP!

for the chem trails you just need to look up to the sky ...

For HAARP it takes about 5 minutes on google to find out how real it is.

What does that have to do with oil drilling?

Any word on when I can view the oil rig from lamai? Sent from my using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

Never, it's going to be beyond the horizon.

This may not be true when they drilled about 10 years ago the other side of Koh Phagan looking from Samui the rig was visible to the left side. As to when you will be able to view a rig drilling from Samui it will depend on the location being drilled. I don't know why all the negativity if a good find is made there is the chance helicopters could fly from here again. It was done before and a big boost for the island and Bangkok airways flying crews in and out.

Here we go again...

As was pointed out in another thread some years ago, rigs will not be visible from the islands.

The exploration and extraction of oil and gas in Thailand is not undertaken by petrol station attendants or motorcycle mechanics whose most advanced skill is knowing which end of a screwdriver to hold. Offshore drilling in Thailand is shallow and has nothing like the complexity of deep water drilling. (The average water depth for drilling in Thailand is 135 feet; compare that with the ill-fated Deepwater Horizon, which was drilling in waters of about 5,000 feet!)

Hydrocarbons were first extracted in Thailand (onshore) in 1921. The first offshore producer was in the Pattani Basin in 1973 (the first offshore drilling was actually in 1971 but was a dry hole).

If you actually want to address the most likely source of potential oil spills, you are looking in the wrong place.

Oil spill accidents typically involve tankers; notably:

In 1994, about 105,670 gallons of diesel fuel spilled into the sea a little over six kilometers from the Si Racha coast after an oil tanker and a cargo ship collided.

In 2002, an oil slick hit beaches near Rayong. Around 100,000 liters of oil had spilled from a tanker after it had hit a rock in the area the previous week.

A spill in 2004 in Pattaya Bay was contained at sea.

It should be noted that the Seacrest drill ship capsized in 1989 but was not engaged in drilling operations at the time.

Since 1997 there have been 27 reports of oil spills in Thailand, mostly illegal discharges (which would not qualify as an "accident.")

The OP is careful in his/her posts not to implicate anyone or any source directly and I am curious what exactly is the foundation for wanting to "Stop Oil Drilling -- Protect Our Tourism," as the fliers say. It seems that the OP wants a great deal more than transparency. If there is a hidden threat here, please produce compelling factual evidence, not simply baseless conjecture. Wanting to stop an industry because you do not understand the processes at work or because of some emotionally driven perception of danger is no more valid than wanting to stop the airlines industry because the process of heavier-than-air flight seems inherently dangerous, and planes do crash "all the time."

The same foundation the watermelons have for everything - dislike of capitalism and white guilt.

Thanks for the information insert...

For the pdf file for thailand response to an oil spill.. im sorry to say I have no faith in thai government to manage emergencies or handle crises. Especially as there is a consistent lack of quality leadership in emergency responses.

As for tourism and oil...at the end of the day its about money. Oil will always generate more money than tourism. Once the oil rigs go up there should be no reason for koh samui and koh phangan to continue with tourism anymore as putting oil rigs up around the islands matter more.

Just got this in my inbox from some of the other hotels passing around the information. can anyone physically verify the information, have not flown from bangkok to samui in quite a long time so cannot verify

Having read this thread, I guess very few posters, if any, have ever seen any of the existing rigs or even the gas flare off or even been aware of what has been going on here for the last 40 years. I have sailed through the Chevron fields many times and those of you on the South of Samui can probably see the gas holder at Khanom which has been the hub of the terminal there for many years. The gulf is shallow, not like The Gulf Of Mexico, and therefore any issues can be dealt with by divers not remote vehicules operating at extreme depths. There are huge floating loading terminals out there in the gulf already and all the way down the East coast of Thailand and Malaysia, they have been there for years; any problems? There are way more issues for the beaches and marine life here caused by commercial fishermen, flushing engine oil and diesel into the sea every day, littering the sea with bottles, polystyrene etc, dragging nets through restricted areas and fishing in the marine park.....why not start by asking the Authotities to police what they already have a mandate for??

Are you suggesting, baring in mind recent oil spills in the gulf of Mexico, that we are supposed to trust the word of the oil companies?

This does make for very emotional responses from people that no doubt care for the environment. I see more green labeled cars in Thailand than any other country I have visited. The local and international oil companies produce a large portion if not all of the local service station pump petrol that comes from the existing production in the GOT.

The most common oil production pollution risk in Thailand is from existing pipelines that are damaged by 3rd party boats and barges working around the pipelines. Normally an anchor dropped on or dragged into a pipeline. If this occurs, production is shut down and the commercial diving industry gets called to come and repair the pipeline.

There is risk in producing oil and gas and in the drilling for same, but the owners of the drilling rigs and heavy construction vessels that install the oilfields have it in their best interest to install the oilfields without damaging the environment or their assets in the process.

The oil and gas will flow. Or you will have no electricity or means of transport other than your bicycle.

How many people against this are watching a computer screen now powered by an oil and gas powered power plant? Ok, some of you have solar or worse than oil and gas, get power from a coal fired power plant. Btw, most of the power plants in Thailand can burn all 3 fuels.

At the moment if you look out to the right before Koh Tao you should be able to see a rig working for Salamander.name is the Mako also depending on flight path could see some Chevron rigs.on the left.

I would be a lot more concerned about the sewage problem on all 3 islands way before worrying about a oil spill. So greenies how about tackling that problem first.
