Acer Tablet

Featured Replies

My Thai friend's daughter needed a tablet for school so I got her an Acer B1-A71-83174G (catchy name, but it doesn't seem to have any other) at Power Buy a few weeks ago for Baht 3990. She attends a private school, which makes her ineligible for the Yingluck freebies ... I guess.

Last week it apparently died. While it's possible the kid did something inappropriate to it, she's fairly responsible about such things so I'm assuming it's a technical glitch. We'll take it back to Power Buy this week, but I'm not overly optimistic about getting cutting edge technical advice there, so I thought I'd ask if anyone here knows if these things have a reset button or some obscure way to resuscitate them. I have a well-behaved iPad and am totally clueless about the workings of Acer tablets. My friend assures me it's been fully charged so there's a reasonable chance that's not the problem.

Thanks in advance.

There may be e reset button.

A very small hole to push a pin into.

Thanks. He's bringing it over today. I'll look for that before we head off to Power Buy

I did find a pinhole and tried pushing a paper clip in it without result.

Then went back to Power Buy, which was, as anticipated, a waste of time.

Took it to Liberty Computer in Pattaya. They deduced the problem was with the display and, since it would be expensive to service, they suggested returning it to Acer, which I'll tell my friend to do.

I've had mixed results with Acer computers over the past five years. This, I think, is the tipping point. I have an HP desktop computer and Apple iPad, both of which are great. I think in future I'll give Acer a miss.

Tablet resets are usually a combination of three (sometimes two) of the push buttons: power, volume, home. But you have to know the combination. Great fun to watch the Android reset and update animations.

4000 baht for an Acer

sure it was real?

Yes, very real. Definitely not on a par with iPad, but real. Acer service center has it now and technological adjustments are taking place as we speak ... I hope.

Well it's back up and running. Acer fixed the problem on warranty (parts only) for a mere Baht 1800 ... and yes I am being sarcastic about the "mere."

So the Baht 4000 bargain Acer Tablet became a nearly Baht 6000 not-so-much-of-a-bargain. As I said earlier, I think this has sealed the deal on me buying anything Acer ever again.

Ouch,

Not so good!

Had to deal with Acer before for a warranty repair (Bangkok), and they were very helpful, ended up being offered an on the spot outright replacement (with loss of all data), or wait a few weeks for repairs with no loss of data. Chose the on the spot replacement. This was about 7 months into the warranty period.

This happened a few years ago though!

Am using one of those tablets myself, and up to now quite happy with it. Short battery life (3-4 hours)and not so good screen, apart from that no problems at all.

Needed a tablet quickly for traveling. Had to choose between the acer and one of the Chinese for roughly the same price but better specifications, but was worried about the Chinese brands often having issues needing replacement under warranty. Didn't want to risk as I had to travel right after the purchase...
