Just returned from thai a week ago and my mate stayed on with his thai g/f who he previously met on a earlier trip 2-3 months ago.He has stayed in telephone contact with her in australia and now is in his 4 th week in thai with her...He rang me the other day telling me he just married her at the australian embassy bangkok and is having the thai wedding tuesday then to return to australia. His new wife is the sister of my g/f of 6 months but i desided to wait on submiting my application for the tourist visa and take things a little slower and go back to thai for another holiday july/augaust return home and then hopefully make my decision one way or the other for her tourist visa to oz.

My friends supporting document are very minimal and have suggested to him to use a migration agent when he returns to oz to build a case with him.

How long do you think the whole process may take for him to get her here and what possible problems may you see him having from a migration point of view with the embassy.

many thanks.

One of the key requisites to gaining a spouse visa is proving a genuine and ongoing relationship ....seeing as he has known her for less than 6 months, he may well have a problem there.

Does your mate want to apply for a migration visa or a tourist visa like yourself? Was a little unsure but I think you mean a migration visa.

Although marrage does gain you browny points towards proving a genuine ongoing relationship, the fact that they have known each other for minimal time and have spent very little time living together doesn't carry much weight. Technically the whole process should be at least 12 months as that's the minimum time immigration require a relationship to have existed, unless they have children together.

Sounds like your mate is in a hurry and that's not what he wants to do! Be patient like yourself. Firstly he should become VERY FAMILIAR with all the info that is given on the Oz immigration website www.immi.gov.au, or you can check out the info pinned at the top of this page (you have about 2 years of reading there).

To prove that his relationship is genuine he needs to start collecting EVERYTHING that is proof of their relationship. Now he's married her and has to go back home to Oz, no doubt he will miss her, so lots of loving emails, phone calls (that can be tracable!!!!!)etc etc etc etc etc. If he has the cash it would be very good for her to visit OZ as a tourist, but because they are now married, I'm not sure how that will affect her getting a tourist visa, I'm sure Bronco or Mighty Mouse will be able to give better advice.

The bottom line is he needs to be patient. If he applies to early with minimal evidence and his application is unsuccessful, he will not only loose his $1500+ application fee, but her future attempts will be jepodised and he will have to pay again.

As they say here in Thailand "Cha Cha" (slowly) and all will be well for him. I have been here for the last 18 months gathering the evidence for my Thai GF to apply in April, wish me luck too!

Good luck! :o

Thanks for your replies, pritty much what i thought as well.It would be good if anyone has any idea about if its possible for him to apply for a tourist visa for her to visit while he builds an application to present later on. Id assume it would not be possible but if anyone has any insight otherwise it would be appreciated as now all i can do is help him with the desision he has made.

For those who might find them self in simalar positions please take your time and then some.

He may be able to take her on a tourist visa...he may need to explain in writing a reason as to why he is not applying for a spouse visa...his best bet is to write to the embassy here in Oz and put the question to them....if they reply that it is not a problem then he can include a copy of that letter with his application for a tourist visa.

I am not sure on the way this goes, so I am just trying to anticipate any problem that he may meet.
