BANGKOK, April 9 – One-third of the Thai public is opposed to various types of lewd acts during the Songkran Festival celebration later this month, according to an opinion survey by National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA).

The poll of1,253 people countrywide found that 36.79 per cent of the respondents dislike or are unhappy with celebrations involving skimpy dress and lewd dancing.

The poll on "Zero Accident" carried out last Wednesday and Thursday among members of the general public aged over 14 on inappropriate manner during Songkran that could lead to brawls, road accidents and supported measures to reduce the number of accidents during the seven days of high accident risk.

Meanwhile 21 per cent said the most unfavourable act for them was drinking alcohol while driving or celebrating. One in five – some 20 per cent -- dislike the use of ice, colourings or charcoal in water splashed on others.

According to the poll, more than 17 per cent said they opposed using high pressure water guns to spray water.

As for the measures the government should use to cut the number of road accidents during Songkran, 46 per cent of the respondents want a ban on liquor sales, followed by one third -- 33.5 per cent -- who said that more checkpoints and strict law enforcement is needed. (MCOT online news)

Two in three welcome lewd acts during Songkran: Survey

  • Popular Post

So, the great majority are OK with lewd dancing and skimy dressing along with the water throwing during Songkran. Well, I guess the minority just needs to stay at home during Songkran....they'll probably watch and record the lews dancing, skimy dressing, and water throwing on TV.

Happy Songkran!!!

So... that has to mean that 2 out of 3 actually support leud acts during Songkran.

Stick THAT in your pipe and smoke it, Ministry of Culture.

Way to go survey!!!!

Two in three welcome lewd acts during Songkran: Survey

Yep, knock your self OUT! lol

I love TL! biggrin.png

"respondents dislike or are unhappy with celebrations involving skimpy dress and lewd dancing"

2/3 of us would like to see some examples so we can compare.

skimpy dress and lewd dancing is a everyday thing isnt it??

So in another words the majority of the people are for lewd acts, great study!

Another example of a headline that is stupid and misleading. Glad to see a large majority support "Lewd Acts During Songkran"

I wonder who decided what the definition of "lewd" is when carrying out the survey ?

Or is this just another case of a headline that is more likely to attract readers!!

So more people a worried about lews acts than driving drunk.

Who is getting paid for seeking out a survey like this ???? people with nothing better to do with their time. Good for a laugh I suppose BUT. sick to do a survey on this.

Wouldn't let me do a smiley--and cup of coffee, can't we dig up some better material to comment on. ???

Those who are against it...men or women??

The men (Thai) surely are more in favour of paying 1,900 bahts for a full service and having the lewd behaviour all for themselves....

My son has informed me there is a very strong opposition to the government now, mainly because of the new laws. he said that the people are becoming tired of the police and many people are at a point where they are ready to revolt. one item they will not allow is politicians breaking the law during elections ie. megaphones and posters blocking vision on roads. also they want to set up vigilantist groups that will catch police breaking the law.

Actually, wasn't NIDA the only polling agency that got the Bangkok governor election right?

Middle finger to the Culture Ministry methinks.

It's good to know that the majority approve of lewd acts.

That is good news, for the army and the yellow shirts they are in the minority again. Most of us, do not oppose lewd acts. Go on ladies.

I am guessing that this poll gave a choice of what do you most dislike about Songkram. It should have asked individual questions about each item whether like, neutral or disliked. Thailand is also the hub of useless polls and even more useless analysis of poll results.

How on earth do they equate 1,253 people to be representative of over 60 million Thais?

So two out of three don't oppose lewd acts. Interesting slant on a story in a country where democracy means the "majority" can do whatever they please.

How on earth do they equate 1,253 people to be representative of over 60 million Thais?

Where is there any mention of 60 million people in the post? That was your assumption. It is the results based on 1253 people and your personal assumption that it was for all Thailand.

Ever heard of statisticians???

Simply google it..

In statistics, quality assurance, and survey methodology, sampling is concerned with the selection of a subset of individuals from within a statistical population to estimate characteristics of the whole population.

Statistics.

It's the current government's Ministry of Culture that are the prudes.

Law of averages, hahaha

It seems you have the same ability to ASSUME what it means, not what it says. Read the article again and maybe you will get it right, maybe not.

"...and even more useless analysis of poll results."

I'm surprised at the number of "analysts" in the comments preceding yours who were able to reduce that 1 - 1/3 = 2/3, although the "63%" comment was on some shaky grounds and the spelling of "lewd" and "skimpy" suffered in the rush to publish the mathematical results in several instances.

How on earth do they equate 1,253 people to be representative of over 60 million Thais?

It's the basis of statistics which depends on a random sampling of a larger population, just as Fox News was able to demonstrate in their prediction of President Romney's landslide election victory.
