Hello,

I'm going to have a £1,300 17" laptop posted to Koh Samui from the United Kingdom and was wondering if anybody had experience with a reliable career service that didn't cost as much as the laptop. I imagine the Postal Service in Thailand isn't as amazing as the scenery so you it would need to be recorded and I'd really appreciate a recommendation.

Many thanks

There's a lot of people travelling to Bangkok from the UK, might be better to scout around and ask that it be handcarried. For a reasonable fee, of course.

FYI, the Thai Post is a whole lot better than the "career" (sic) services and doesn't get you involved with the Swampyboom Thai Customs mafia.

Bash the Thai postal system all you want, but once you receive your parcel using a private carrier please don't come back here an whine about how much VAT and duty you had to pay because you feel that they are more amazing

I have no idea what you're talking about but thanks for the post.

So, perhaps I could send it via recorded international mail using the Post Office through Thailand's regular mail service. I should contact the post office and ask them I guess.

Not sure if the "unaccompanied luggage" services at the airports allow for pickup by a third party, but if so, that would be cost-effective compared to FedEx et al.

expensive parcel? £1,300 laptop? yea right, i bet your penny is as big as a cart wheel rolleyes.gif

get real dude, its not a patek philippe or something. was about to recommend a private importer offering proper insurance till i see your £1,300 laptop. just go for the usual registered post, nobody in thai post is blink twice at your £1,300 laptop unless you cheap out on a standard post.

use fedex/dhl and you gonna whine about all the storage frees, vat etc etc

I'm curious as to what this means? "i bet your penny is as big as a cart wheel"

I wonder if I had it shipped to someone's house first to remove the vendor packaging, and any hint that it was a new product and just have sent out as a laptop in packaging if I might lessen the chances of paying tax etc.

I order a custom laptop from US before.

I requested the vendor to under declare the value for me with modified receipt attached and send it as a gift. The risk is if your laptop is missing the compensation will be base on the declared value.

For my case it arrival without an issue via FedEx express.

Why go to all the hassle of having a laptop sent halfway round the world ?? surely there are places in Thailand that you can buy an up to date laptop !

For this post and the one below it, I need a very specific specification and I'd also ideally like it to be with only the characters for the English alphabet on the keyboard. I could take a look around in Singapore but I doubt I'll find what I'm looking for.

You are going to crap when you get the import tax and vat tax fee's! A $400US camera is around 1900B so multiply it by 8 should give you and idea of what you might expect!! Then again you might just get lucky...who knows.

If I have it sent in as an item which I have already owned for some time rather than something I have just purchased, will I be less susceptible to import taxes?

No, you are at the mercy of what the Thai Customs inspectors thinks it is worth, ergo the multiple recommendations NOT to use a private carriers, so that the issue never comes up....but go ahead and send it via...DHL, FEDEX, etc. and please post here so the we can collectively say We told you so

Id be spending less time on forums and worrying how i can escort my children back to the UK safely then answering other peoples questions.

Lol.

You may find this difficult to believe but some people have got better things to do than to come and post redundant nonsense on forums, so no, I won't be spending valuable time coming onto a forum to say what happened when I know what might happen because I came on forums to find out.

Please stop posting on this thread you have nothing valuable to add.

Thanks.

Ah here it is, from a few days ago.

Don't see how what I posted is affected by my personal situation.

And why does everyone assume I'm British?

I would say that this is the best method,'Recorded Delivery',as you'll have the opportunity to track your shipment but it won't flag up a big,red Thai Baht sign to the Immigration and Customs on its arrival to the Land of Extortion Smiles!wink.png

The comment was toward FunFon not YOU. FunFon has a rather outrageous thread going elsewhere on TV..
