Is there still a waiting period to buy a new Nissan March? What about the other eco cars? Can I walk in with cash and drive out the same day?

All eco cars currently have a waiting list anywhere from 1-12 months.

If you want one walk-in/drive-out, you'll need to hit the phones and call dealerships in the hope of finding one that's had finance refused or the order cancelled.

However, out of curiosity, I asked about financing; despite a work permit for six consecutive years and proof of monthly income they insisted I need a Thai guarantor. I offered to put 50 percent down, but the person I spoke with insisted there was no financing ever for foreigners. I arranged a test drive and will bring the correct documents for finance and see what happens. Anyone have similar experience with Nissan?

Just tell them "no deal", and go visit the next Nissan dealership. In general, that works (either they relent, or you will find someone wanting your business and not creating too much difficulty).
