The map in the OP is dated 2001, posted 2006 - Ok for a general idea of the land but not the best for a road trip.

We're fortunate there are now so many free/online options to keep up-to date; though not so long ago we met a touring cyclist with a well out-of-date map who had made a long 2hr pedalling detour to cross the river - see below, wasn't aware of the bridge).

Since 2006, as the latest maps provided show, there is the grandly titled Chaloem Burapha Chonlathit Coastal Highway (has cycle lanes all the way!), over 100km which begins from south of Laem Sing and is an alternate route up the coast (rather than Sukhumvit 3) and will reach Rayong when the bridge at Prasae is complete later this year.

Apart from the road itself, there are (since 2009) bridges at Laem Sing and Paknam Khaem Nu as part of this coast highway; previously to get across was either boat ferry or head inland adding more than 40km to the journey. Road sealing was completed 2011.
