Another Tendonitis Thread (Golfer's Elbow)

Featured Replies

Since overdoing it in the gym last November I have been suffering from a case of what is known as "golfers elbow".

I had expected it to clear up over a couple of weeks or so after ceasing working out on my arm, but it hasn't. i had a cortison injection after new year which helped a lot in reducing the inflamation and associated pain, but it didn't efffect a lasting cure. it has abated somewhat but is still noticeable and the point on the inner elbow where the tendon joins the bone hurts quite acutely if i knock it even gently.

I know now from reading up a bit about it that this persistence of the injury is not unusual, it can go on for years, not just months and i would like to avoid this.

does anyone have any advice or experience in treating this injury successfully?

I assume you are already taking antinflammatories?

Aside from that, rest and the cortisone injection you have already had, what can help is a program of specific exercises. Google "eccentric exercises golfer's elbow" and you'll find many descriptions and youtube videos of what to do.

Good luck.

Thanks Sheryl - I took anti-inflammatory for 2 months but after the initial improvement they seemed ineffective so I stopped. I googled the condition yesterday and am doing the stretches and flexes now.

Sent using the iPad App.

I had the same last year and it dragged on with no improvement for nearly three months.

A friend recommended accupunture which I tried and the improvement was amazing right from the start. Four treatments once a week and my elbow and grip were as strong as ever. The therapist also had me doing some light physio after the second treatment.

Get yourself an elbow brace, availible at any reasonable golfing shop, it isolates the tendon, put it on your forearem about 3 fingers width from your elbow and try and wear it as much as possible, it takes time but it does work, golfers elbow is a b*st*rd of thing to get rid of...been suffering with it on and off for the years,

Had the injections etc which only gave short term relief, had a talk to a orthapedic surgeon a few years ago and if the meds, braces etc dont work..only other option is surgery and even he advised only something he would do as a last resort as recovery takes so long.
