Driving With No Lights On: How Many Do You Spot?

Featured Replies

I have a business here in Bangkok and so I need to drive to my my suppliers and sub contractors between 8-11pm most nights. during that time I spot at minimum 2 cars driving with no lights on.

(This doesn't included motorbikes or shitty old trucks)

I know being in the Big smoke there is more people around but back home in Scotland I would only see it once or twice a month, and usually you would finally see the drivers switch on after giving a few signals.

Is it only me that has the pleasure of seeing so many? How many do you get? haha

I am also amazed with the amount of cars drivers here not switching their lights on.

Not so many motor bikes anymore as on newer ones you can't switch it off unless you modify it.

One time on a trip from Pattaya to SiSaket it started to rain very strongly and I was shocked that so many didn't switch their lights on, it was very dangerous because you didn't see them coming until app. 50 meters away.

Maybe they think you wear on the battery and use more fuel? Well I guess that you will use slightly more fuel with your lights on but nothing you can measure.

See lots of them in the day, but can't say I see them so well at night.whistling.gif

Where l am l see loads, l asked the Mrs why these numnuts drive with no lights in the dark, she said,

''They want people to think they don't need lights cos they are superior'', her words not mine. sad.png

Just checked with my missus and I am bad if I don't have my lights on at night, but she's not sure if a Thai person is bad.

I am sure.....their <deleted>@king idiots!!!

I see than quite often and its especially dangerous because those oncoming vehicles that do have their lights on make them more difficult to see.

I've set my lights to come on automatically as darkness falls lest I forget.

The reasons for not using lights must include laziness, forgetfulness and non-functioning lights. I have also heard an explanation to the effect that some think it makes the battery last longer.

+ you get the others that find how to switch them on but appear have no idea how to dip them, so drive around on full beam with everyone flashing them............ maybe that could be a reason why they leave them off ?

Trucks tend to be sparing with dipped lights. They don't set the beam for full loads, so they blind everyone. They wont re set them because they are 2 low when empty.Yet a Car gets MOT failed for incorrect lights. Strange that. So how does any truck without self levellers get loose anywhere.coffee1.gif

Countless here in Bangkok.. I wish they turned on their lights in dark car parks as well..
