Tyres, CCTV cameras, telephone booths burned in Pattani

PATTANI, April 20 -- An unknown number of suspected insurgents caused disturbances at 14 locations in four districts of Pattani province on Friday night by burning tyres, CCTV cameras, and public telephone booths.

Pattani police chief Pol Maj-Gen Ekkapop Prasitwattanachai said that in the provincial seat, car tyres were burned on Pattani-Narathiwat Road, a tree was felled to block the road, and a fibre optic cable on electricity post was burnt, causing mobile phone service disruption in Pattani and Narathiwat.

CCTV camera and public telephone booth in front of Chongraksat Withaya school were torched, he said.

In Yaring district, tyres were burned at an intersection in front of Tanyong Dalo subdistrict, while three CCTV cameras were stolen.

In Nong Jik district, tyres were burnt on Road Number 42 while fire raged at a village head's home in Kholo Tanyong. The police were investigating whether the fire was caused by accident or arsonists.

In Yarang district, tyres were burned at three locations on Road number 410 Yala-Pattani. (MCOT online news)
