Out of interest, is the mother 'on board' with your education plans for her son?

To the OP:

You may not call it luck - perhaps fate is more to your liking, but if you really believe that it has played no part in your success then in my view your arrogance is matched only by your self delusion.

Being smart (at least in your chosen field), having and following through on a great idea or two, working 16 hour days with laser-like focus on your objectives and being financially prudent are all things pretty much central to success as an entrepreneur and they also happen to be those over which you have some degree of control. Here are some things that can happen to many otherwise successful and hard working business people which are just plain unlucky:

• Having that great idea, developing it at vast expense only to have it rendered obsolete by a startling and hitherto secret new development.
• A jealous employee spreads anonymous rumours about your private life and shops you to immigration.
• Your wife, tired of playing second fiddle to a bank of LCD screens and a business she has no interest in, hears the rumours and promptly meets someone more attractive, attentive and already loaded.
• You happen to be waiting at the lights when a drunken teenager runs into your car.
• Your dog is bitten by a rabid squirrel and then bites you. That's when you find out that the vet had inadvertently used a counterfeit vaccine when giving Rex his anti-rabies shot.
• Your warehouse is decimated in an accidental fire the day before your big launch and the person responsible for placing the insurance had cut some corners and pocketed the difference. Sadly, he'd already blown the lot on the horses and perished in a boating accident.
• Your wife's lawyer is smarter than yours and has the judge in his pocket. You lose almost everything.
• Your children hate you for not being there for them. Their new Uncle Brad is much more fun and has a bigger pool than the one they used to have at your house before you had to sell it. He's going to buy them each a Lexus when they turn 16.
• Time to pick yourself up and start over. This time round that great idea is either not great, too late, too early, or would only work in the Falkland Islands.

So now tell me that success and happiness is just down to hard work.

The most important question to ask is if non-Thai children are accepted in government schools, and I don't have an answer to that although someone else here may know. The basic info you are after is:

Thai government schools: Fees minimal, as is the education which is almost impossible with class sizes often in the 50's.

Private schools: Thai Programme 35 - 60,000 per year; English Programme: 80 - 100,000 per year; International 180,000 - several million a year.

That's only a very rough guide and there are significant variations between schools as there is with class size, facilities and quality of staff. In addition, private schools will levy a one-off enrollment fee of some sort which is likely to set you back at least 50,000 baht.

There are many threads on Thai Visa discussing the education choices in CM - you should take some time out to read those first. Bottom line: look at a lot, choose one, then rent a house conveniently nearby and see how things work out.

Do you really expect the members on this forum (members of a discussion forum / not your servants) to know or to research "What's the least time consuming course there is?"

You should also think about making applications nice and early to improve your chances of getting a place.

If applying to a Thai school be aware that they mostly begin a new school year around the 20th of this month. Very soon!

If applying to international schools, you have more time, as they don't start the new school year until August. You should, however, still be applying now as the more popular schools fill up fast and you may not be able to get a place. I know, for example, that at Lanna International School, where I work, all of the Middle School years (Grades 6, 7, 8) and many Primary School years are completely full for August already...

The sooner you make your applications the more choices will be available to you; without needing to join waiting lists.
