Thai Government Party M P Korkaew Back In Jail As Immunity Expires

Recommended Posts

If I write my own opinion on Pheu Thai party list MP and UDD leader Korkaew I'm afraid I would open myself up for a defamation lawsuit. Mind you if someone can have an opinion of "intellectual soft spoken good man" why can't I have an opinion which could very well be somewhat of the opposite like " intellectual soft spoken evil man"

I don't think Korkaew is an evil man.

but what makes you think you could not speak free here?

So you personally know Korkaew?

Also i don't think the Comedian was all that good... Nothing but Red shirt stuff on Youtube.. There must not be any fans of his early work. Also he is in jail for intimidating court judges... not for his comedy..or lack of it.

Well as has often been said siting in parliament should never give a criminal immunity from being charged with crimes. Next thing you know they will be having parliament in session 365 days a year and Thaksin an mp from Chiang Mai.

Actually the reason I am posting was I noticed several opinions to what ZhouZhou had said but when I went back through the posts there was none from him until about five posts had referred to what he said. Was one of his post's deleted?

UPDATE
Korkaew's bail rejected 'as he didn't regret behaviour'

BANGKOK: -- Pheu Thai MP and red-shirt leader Korkaew Pikulthong's threats to Constitutional Court judges continue to haunt him and have resulted in him being sent back to jail.

Korkaew - who faced terrorism charges - does not have MP immunity as the Parliament has gone into recess and the Criminal Court refused to grant him bail, saying he failed to demonstrate regret.

"In the bail request and the hearing of the fifth defendant [Korkaew], there has been no clear evidence to the court that the fifth defendant regrets violation of the [previous] bail conditions, nor has he done anything to rehabilitate the bad consequences from his conduct. On the other hand, the fifth defendant insisted his conduct was not in violation of the court's conditions," the court said.

His lawyer did not submit another bail request for Korkaew yesterday. The MP was then escorted to the Special Remand Prison in Laksi.

For the court's consideration, Korkaew presented Interior Minister and Pheu Thai Party leader Charupong Ruangsuwan, Deputy House Speaker Charoen Jankomol and red-shirt leader Thida Thawornseth as witnesses to guarantee his good behaviour. They said Korkaew was a man of gentle nature and during the parliamentary session he had made no provocative comments to the media nor stirred political chaos. He had also helped Charoen in inviting people with different political views to discuss reconciliation and helped campaign for eligible voters to come out and vote during the Bangkok gubernatorial election.

The court first revoked Korkaew's bail on November 30 last year and he was released as he had MP's immunity while the House was in session.

Meanwhile, Korkaew's lawyer Jessada Chandee said he would file an appeal today and would call on the court to reconsider his bail based on whether he is likely to flee or if he will meddle with witnesses and evidence.

Moreover, he will also submit to the court the Civil Court's rulings that the red shirts' rally in 2010 was not an acto of terrorism. Jessada added that he would look for other options if bail is refused again.

Election Commission member Prapun Naigowit said the EC had resolved then that Korkaew was still qualified as an MP and although he was a suspect he had not been jailed following the court's ruling.

Thats a great argument to put forward to the court that you have "not been involved in political activities"....as a MP!!! clap2.gifcheesy.gif

To me it appears not being involved in “political activities” like parliament sessions, necessary briefings, training opportunities and the imposition of actually serving the country and not the own wallet, is the root problem of the majority of MP’s over here. This country needs a massive clean-up! But no one will ever vote for a guy capable and encouraged to do the overdue job.

It's fairly silly IMO that an MP ceases to be an MP, when Parliament isn't sitting, so that he then gets sent back to jail.

Why doesn't this apply when they are sitting, at week-ends, either ? So he spends Saturdays & Sundays back inside ?

The honourable thing would be for him to resign, until the case is sorted, and to take his punishment for his previous actions like a man.

Or for parliamentary-immunity to apply only to things said within Parliament.

No honour among this bunch

Celebrating the fact they did not meet the same end as many of their colleagues

I must admit I've heard before that a fate worse than being in jail is being a Pheu Thai party list MP and UDD leader in a cozy, special build prison for the right people.

Mind you, some have it that money spent on buying politicians and UDD leaders is worth it's money because it automatically brought in cannon fodder.

Anyway, the topic is not on a celebration even though some mentioned clowning, but on the withdrawal of bail for that 'good' person k. Korkaew.

I don't think you heard anything of the sort, I think you just made that up! smile.png

I heard it here which strictly speaking should be "I read it here". Search and you will find it.

BTW the drive to get UDD leaders freed on bail already started soon after May 2010. The concern for ordinary red-shirts is minimal in comparision. Reminds me of Eric Arthur Blair.

From 2013-03-15, UDD leader Thida Tawornsate Tojirakarn:

"The manner in which Thailand is treating its political prisoners is contrary to basic democratic principals. Even the Sarit [Thanarat] dictatorship recognized a distinction between political offenders and other prisoners. Now that we are more democratic we cant even meet such low standards."

Mind you, she was referring to 10 red-shirt and LM offenders she wanted moved to Laksi Prison. Included were Somyot Prueksakasemsuk, Thantawut Thaweevarodomkul, and Daranee Chanchengsillapakul. Imagine being an honest political prisoner and getting stuck with those opportunists.

I noticed Thida was one of the witnesses for Korkaew.

Strange indeed, bail is usually not granted to those who are deemed a flight risk.......not showing regret for an action where a trial has yet to decide your level of guilt would appear to be a very unauthodox reason to place a yet to be convicted person in jail. There are murders out there on bail.

Actually, the action that put him back in jail and that he is not showing regret is the dissemination of judges home addresses, not the original charges.

Korkaew declines to apologise to Constitutional Court
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Korkaew Pikulthong, a Pheu Thai MP and red-shirt leader, refused Tuesday to apologise to the Constitutional Court, saying it was unclear which law the Criminal Court used to judge him as remorseless.

Korkaew, who had won temporary release for his immunity while the House was in session, said he would consult with his attorney Jessada Chandee about submitting a bail request again after the Criminal Court sent him back to jail on Monday as the House had adjourned for recess.

The court had found no grounds for granting bail.

BANGKOK: -- Korkaew Pikulthong, a Pheu Thai MP and redshirt leader, refused on Tuesday to apologise to the Constitutional Court, saying it was unclear which law the Criminal Court applied in ruling he had failed to show remorse for his actions.

Korkaew, who won temporary release due his parliamentary immunity while the House was in session, said he would consult with his attorney Jessada Chandee about submitting another bail request.

The Criminal Court sent him back to jail on Monday as the House had adjourned for recess.

Korkaew said he slept well last night and would be stuck in his cell until the House reconvenes. He said he was fine and felt like he'd returned to his old home.

Are waiting for the dems to stop blocking attempts for an amnesty bill to be passed because they are convinced that Thaksin will be part of that amnesty despite written assurances that this is not the case.

the pending amnesty bill of Samut Prakan MP Worachai Hema..................Worachai's bill would exclude Thaksin and the authorities as well as red-shirt leaders from the amnesty, which is mainly aimed at absolving political demonstrators. http://www.nationmultimedia.com/politics/Pheu-Thai-eyes-Amnesty-Bill-reading-this-week-30204050.html

But I'm sure they appreciate your concern, rubl.

But isn't there another case that has been put on the roll because a few of the defendants have parliamentary immunity ?

So they have 4 months to prosecute those as well now.

I guess the PTP has to threaten the constitutional court judges a bit more with impeachement, it seems from the OP that they got the message biggrin.png

Poor old Korkaew. both he and the red mob here fail to understand that the court is currently looking at his breach of bail conditions, not the original charge. That he fails to show remorse for the breach is taken as a reasonable indication that he may repeat those actions, making the other grounds for granting bail irrelevant.

But in the breach, like the original offence, he was just following orders, and as the CC is currently on the nose with Thaksin, there is little chance he will be offering a heartfelt apology and recognising their authority lest he risk his PTP endorsement.
