I need to know if i have to get an up to date letter from my employers confirming my employment with them as i have my original contract letter when i started there in dec 2012,will that be ok to use as it states my annual salary and start date on the letter?Or should i get a new one?

I would have thought that the original letter confirming the position and salary would be in order, with evidence of the salary paid since the date you joined the company, to confirm that you actually took up employment.

When we applied for the wifes ILR late last year I submitted my letter of contract which was dated 2011, with current pay slips they did not query it at the time & everything went through ok
