International Schools And Qualifications.

Featured Replies

Would an online masters degree in education or efl be enough to get a job in an international school or is QTS the only option? For the top schools I would imagine you need QTS, but for lesser schools?

For the top Brit schools you would need not only QTS but also completion of your NQT and another years experience on top...........as a minimum.

^Yup... and you couldn't just show up on the door; you'd have to go through the standard online system and compete.

No, a masters degree in education means nothing without proper qualifications. If the masters program you took did not lead to qualification, then I'm afraid to say that you got a bum deal.

I haven't taken the Masters yet, it is something I'm looking into. I know an online Masters is seen as a lower qualification, but I am looking at doing a reputable one from Bath university. I just curious as to what benefits, if any, it would have for teaching in Thailand.

Edit. What do you mean by proper qualifications?

By proper qualifications I mean having the right documents to teach in your home country. I would assume that if you did it through the Uni. of Bath then that should lead to a proper PGCE (not a PGCEi). For Americans it is state by state.

The good schools don't care about masters degrees (although it might bump you up a bit on the salary scale) all they care about is if you are qualified to teach where you are from. Also, without that qualification, I don't think you can get a work permit either for an int. school.

Make sure that the program you enter leads to PROPER qualification; this is paramount.

Good luck!
