Mcafee Versus Thai Visa

Featured Replies

Why is it that every time I go to any of the Thai Visa forums my McAfee software announces that this is a dangerous site?

See attached photo of warning.

A few weeks ago another member had a similar issue with McAfee. I used around 8 or more test sites, including some of the top ones, nothing shows up and says TV is clean. Conclusion, false positive due to possible heuristic match with some Thaivisa script.

Perhaps you should start by reading some of the posts - obviously McAfee has! LOL

Don't believe everything Mcaffee comes up with,it keeps popping up with everything except viruses,I have free access to Mcaffee from my ISP,

A most intrusive Anti Virus, that's why I kicked it off.

It isn't a question of believing it, but wondering what's setting it off. I don't find McAfee especially intrusive and, as far as I know, my computer has been kept virus-free, which is what I pay McAfee to do. I would rather put up with a few false positives than deal with my computer being screwed up ... but as far as I can recall this is the only site I visit that regularly causes this warning to materialize. Possibly it's because of some advertisers who share a server with more dubious associates??

I know I'm clean, my computer hasn't been dripping for days since I switched to Windows Defender.

The ASUS laptop I have came with a Mcafee promotion offer installed.

I just removed it, even though this was difficult since ASUS gets paid by Mcafee to use this virus software.

After removal of McAfee, which I consider malware, then just install the windows defender option that comes with your Win8 OS, or is available for your Win7 OS.

The best option of course is to throw out Windows altogether and just use linux with KDE desktop.

After 10 years without the drips, I think Linux is a good choice.

But if you are using Win8, then maybe this will help.

yep, first thing i uninstall on any new machine is macafee.

its huge, slow ineffective, and it takes FOREVER, to uninstall

I used to use McAfee and it said that about most of the sites i visited. I thought it was just the " quality" of the sites i went to.biggrin.png

Looking at heuristic scanning.

Pros and Cons of Heuristic Detection

Heuristic Detection is an effective way to locate unknown threats for the most up-to-date realtime protection, but there are downsides.

Obviously this sort of scanning and analysis can take some time, which may slow-down system performance.

The main concern with heuristic detection is that it often increases false positives. False positives are when the antivirus software determines a file is malicious (and quarantines or deletes it) when in reality it is perfectly fine and/or desired. Because some files may look like viruses but really aren’t, they are restricted and stopped from working on your computer.

Internet-Security

A false positive is when your virus scanner detects a file as a virus, even when it really isn't a virus, and then tries to quarantine or delete that file. If you've read about the recent McAfee fiasco, you'll begin to see the problem—they released a virus definition update that detected internal Windows files as a false positive, deleted them, and then suddenly Windows couldn't boot anymore. Antivirus software is not perfect.

Some virus scanners also employ an additional line of defense called heuristic analysis, which attempts to identify new forms of malware right away by scanning for smaller sections of code that might indicate some bad behavior, even if the virus has never been detected before. Unfortunately, because this method is not exact, it also will detect a lot of files as viruses incorrectly.

And what may those Thaivisa scripts be?

Not trivial to chase down as nearly the entire board is written with scripts. Besides, it's a McAfee issue and not Invision Board software. wink.png
