Hi

is there a personal general liability insurance in Thailand? Say I put my coffee over somebody's laptop or my son destroys the smart phone of my uncle or I destroy something in a hotel. If so, any company that can be recommended?

do you mean public liability?

I like AXA, excellent English, good prices and pretty good customer service

He is asking about personal liability and his examples are examples of personal liability. Why would he mean public liability?

Very pedantic! Public liability means liability to members of the public. The term public liability is always used for businesses but can also be used for individuals.

OP, if you have a homeowners insurance check to see if you have coverage. If not then you'll find cheap cover from a broker.

Agree, my reply was a pedantic reply to a pedantic reply.

This is not the West, there are no lawyers chasing ambulances or advertising for law suits on television here

Fortunately Thai are not overly litigious so I think your chances of being sued for spilling your coffee is between slim and none

Spend your money on fire or theft insurance, which you have a decent chance of needing

Really? Sounds quite shortsighted not to have liabilty insurance. Window fell out of my apartment suppose it hits somebody. Apart from that, it is a rented apartment, they charged me. If I had a liability insurance could have claimed.

AXA seems pretty low coverage - only 4 Mill THB

You can get a higher cover but will cost more, also note while 4 mil does not sound like much to you, it is actually pretty big money in Thai . As someone who knows it all stated can use broker to get different quotes. Pm me if you want an English speaking guy in Pattaya .

AA brokers were great , but with the staff change, I would not use them again

I used to market insurance, so in general I would agree with you.

But with the limited risk here, I don't see much need for personal liability insurance here.

I am looking for public liability insurance for either my company (thai owned) or me personally if that isn't possible, in the event of any accidents on my waterpark in Koh Samui. I would need in the region of 10 million dollars coverage. You say don't bother with it in thailand and 4 million baht is a lot to a Thai. That seems rather patronising and short-sighted to me. There are plenty of Thai people who are very well off, plus many Thai businesses must cover public liability to expats and tourists, whose insurance companies will go for the jugular when required.

It is not what you or i think is good enough, Iys what insurance considers to be good enough.

You need public liability for 300 000 000 baht? Good luck getting it and have fun paying the premiums

Sorry, that is what I said for personal liability, I would not say that for a company insurance.

For a waterpark., also make sure you have accident insurance.
