There used to be a couple of places selling LS1, LS3, LS7 and T5's, but I haven't looked for a few years now.

Back then they wanted over 400K just for a used LS1, so I stopped searching and my vision of making a V8 pickup died :(

Wish I could help sad.png . Would suggest emailing the American car club in Thailand, it is a big club so you might be lucky. What is it for ? smile.png

You may remember a couple of years ago I was searching for a Jaguar, which I found in mint with 32k on the clock.

Since then I have been lucky enough to import to PNG from Japan a XKR and XJR with plans to bring to Thailand. For obvious reasons this is now discounted and I will sell here.

So the quest for similar performance is to buy XKR/JR in Thailand or XK8 for much less and implant preferably LS3 with 4L60E tranny.

This should give the twist power I want and just the right noise.

Bit of a dream at this stage but looking into it anyway. There is a kit available for this conversion from the US which makes it a simple conversion.

So there biggrin.png

I had the same idea when I bought my 65 Oldsmobile Cutlass from one of the members of the Thai American Car Club as the car was equipped with a Toyota 6 cylinder motor. After searching and figuring I would be paying over 100,000 baht on just the parts plus the conversion labor I settled on a Lexus V-8 engine as it bolted up to the Toyota 5 speed automatic transmission that was already in the car. I had the engine and new radiator installed for 40,000 baht (and gave the mechanic the old engine). I was pleasently surprised as the car sounded great and could lay rubber in 1st to 2nd car shifts. Also, I think the engine looked great as it looked like an old Ford cammer as the Lexus engine has 4 overhead cams. Puts out about 400 hp.

IMHO is not alone with his V8 ute dream. There are a couple of old threads about re-powering old Hilux's with the Toyota 1UZ V8.

IMHO, is that a typo or correct at 400k ?? this could be no dream but a very short nightmare blink.png

Not a typo I'm afraid :(

At the time I was looking it was the only used LS1 I could find for sale, The rest were all importers of crate engines looking for 600K+

I spent a few years in USA while in Uni, and have done several 1-2 week trips to Oz for work since, and the thing I've learnt is that only BMW and Benz make nicer sounding V8's than GM ;)

w00t.gif blasphemy, the thing is a stock USA V8 does sound a bit tame but put a cam in to bring on the HP and all will be revealed. I have a video here of my Pontiac on the street but fear a problem if it goes planet. whistling.gif

What modifications have you done to your 1UZ to bring power up to 400hp? Standard these never produced more than 300hp and you needed the vvti to get that. I'm interested because I've been considering a 1uz swap into a Mitsubishi G-Wagon.

Just a pair of headers, dual exhausts with a pair of Gibson CFT Superflow mufflers. !997 and later 1UZs have VVT-I and are rated at 290hp. 1995 & 1996 are rated at 268hp.
