Hi all. What kind of visa is the so called retirement visa ?

Once visa is obtained, is it possible to get a yearly renewal at the local immigration office ?

Thanks for your comments.

Long stay non immigrant O-A is often called retirement visa and provides one year stay on entry and can be extended as can any non immigrant O visa for retirement yearly. Most people just obtain the non immigrant O 90 day entry and extend for retirement from that and continue yearly.

No idea present day but..

Used to be get a 1 year non immigrant O-A retirement visa, before it ends do a boarder run and get another 1 years stamp. so can /could get almost 2 years out of that Visa.

Edit: 1st year could leave and always get another full one year on re-entry, 2nd year needed a re-entry permit.

Got my 1 year non immigrant O-A retirement visa in UK way back in 2003, so may have changed..

Got mine in 2008 and a mate got his in 2012 remains exactly as you say. The big advantage is not having to show funds with extensions for almost 2 years

But the problem for some in getting the OA visa is that it requires a medical certificate and police report.

Dependent where you live the medical can costly unless you have a doctor you use regularly.

The can also be problematic to get dependent upon where you live.

Also if you planning on bringing wife along with you unless you both can qualify for the OA (financial proof for both) she would have to make border runs every 90 days using a multiple entry O visa because she would not be able to get a dependent extension from the OA visa entry you would have.
