What paperwork is required for a farang to obtain a bidding number at vehicle auctions?

Passport, Visa and Residency Certificate I guess...anything else?

Ive wandered around a few, just to see whats up. You can look and run the engines, same cross section as any other auctions to me.Sweeping statement to say theres nothing any good, or are the swarms of Thais standing around to get a Tan.

They are presold with the colluding customs officials.

The rest is just for show. Avoid it like the plague.

Not all auctions are of seized assets, but your first sentence is right when it is seized goods.

And the large brown envelope.

For what?

Grease! To get anywhere in certain sections of Thai.....say commerce, you need to grease the wheels.

Yes, repossessed car auctions aren't much better and the savings are not worth the time.

Might save 20 to 30k than buying privately but too many variables to buy with confidence. I can tell you a story of an old brit who is no longer with us (RIP) bought a Vios at one at these auctions only to find out that so many little parts were missing after the hammer dropped.

Interiors get switched and spare tire stolen.

Its a dirty game. Stay away and avoid the mess.

Even with repossessed cars, if it's desirable you can be sure that it's been "per-sold" before it hits the auction list.

Yes. They leave the junk for the rats to fight over.

Thanks for the replys. Consenis seems its not worth the effort.

You could always go to one and find out unlike the replyswink.png

Well I can only speak for myself. Here in LOS I have been to 12 car/pick-up auctions and about 20 bike auctions....plus I used to checkout Collingburnes every week. It's not like the used car or bike market back home and hardly worth the effort.
