Or is the problem that we as western men fail to account for the fact that we are entering a class based society, in which the only hope of class advancement is seen as through a western man for those at the bottom? Is it that we fail to account for this and therefore accept those that approach us, instead of making a serious search, dating women that work for banks, that own restaurants and hotels, that work in government departments? Most would consider these ladies as "boring", and not fun or crazy like ladies from the bar. It is this lack of understanding which can often be the first guarantee of future relationship failure. It is also a fact that those whom are educated are less likely to commit violent crime - this rule transcends global society.

I think the problem is that foreigners coming to Thailand fail to understand that killing someone is seen as a legitimate way of solving a minor problem here.

As for educated less likely to commit violent crime, haven't two current Thai MPs managed to 'accidentally' shoot and kill their wives fairly recently?

Ok guys. Look. My point of view is different than yours. If you find it offensive, then I apologize.

After all, it's just a matter of opinion.

I was born poor. I came to Thailand because I was recruited for work, when I was 20, with 500 Baht in my pocket. That was 1998. Decided to stay. Worked legal and illegaly in BKK, went to Thai schools to study Thai, worked at Universities as an assistant, public schools, construction companies, hotels, etc. to BUILD a life in Thailand.

I worked in rice fields, on rubber farms with my family, went fishing with my brothers in law for food money because all the money we made was put into building our house. All we have, from the house, the bikes, the car etc., we made, build, and saved together the hard way.

There were times in Thailand I was homeless, starving, robbed, burglered, shot at, and imprisoned.

There were times I loved the Thais for their generousity and there were times when I hated them.

But I still only stick with Thais. There are good Thais, and bad Thais, but I can choose with who I stick.

But still I'm only a Falang, and always will be. A guest for lifetime, no matter what I might do, or not.

And I don't identify myself by nationality, but by the experience that made me who I am.

I'm not going soft on any Falang in Thailand 30, or 70, or 135 years old.

Guenthers story is a tragedy of course, no doubt. But he chose to be in Thailand, and he chose to be with this people, and he paid the ultimate price for his decisions. He did so, without understanding his environment. I have no pity for that.

The people responsible for his death will be put to justice, I'm certain of that.

My point of all this is that:" How could it come so far", what's the backround?

I can assure you that he is (was) not the only Falang who gets abused in Thailand. Guenther was not the first, and sure was not the last I have seen, and met plenty. And it's always the same thing. No one wants to speak up. But when a 70 year old Falang gets brutaly murdered, and I say lucky he was 70, and not 30, then I am somehow cruel.

Ah, my girlfriend this, ah my wife that. And what about the Falang.? How did he behave? And why? Did he provoke such rage?

And that's the point of this thread. Are there any more like Guenther in Udon?

But most importantly: What would you do, if you knew?

Would you speak up and help, or laugh at the guy? And then point your fingers at the Thais, cause he got murdered.

I can't help it, but wonder.

His name was Guenther...the guy was 70, for f sake. It was his time to go anyway. I wouldn't like Udon Thani filled with walking corpses of my fellow Austrian country men anyways, or would you?

It might sound a little harsh, I know. But 70? Come on?

He probably is reborn already as a Thai girl, who will become a notorious Bargirl, to take revenge on all western men, or that's at least what I pray for (secretly), when my wife drags me into the village temple.

So its ok to kill somebody when he is 70+? blink.png

We should talk about your Posting again in 36 years when you are 70 old!

The life expectancy, is about 77 years for men in the moment in Austria so you would like to see a lot of people better dead than lively!

TING TONG ! bah.gif

It's not ok to kill at all. But I have to admit that I prefer a 70 year old, single old fart, waiting to be dead in Thailand, to pass away more than, a young family father who is still having half of his life in front of him, or for that matter anyone who is under forty, boy or girl.

And your life expectansy? Most people are just alive anyway waiting to be dead, instaed of living their lifes to the fullest. By the time I get 70, which I and everyone who knows me doubts sincerely, my kids are grown, my wife has 2-3 gigs, and I hope she will have them. And I'm off being a naughty old guy, going for the BOOM Leaving Las Vegas Style. And if I won't die out there going down in a fury blaze of fire, I'd actually prefer that my wife would kill me. Better than sitting and lying around somewhere, being someones pain in the a-ss, waiting to be dead. It's not how long you live, BUT HOW YOU LIVE.

36 years from now? I don't even know where I'd be a couple of years from now. Maybe I'd be in Thailand, maybe I'd be in Austria, or maybe I'd be in Amsterdam dying from a fatal heart attack due to drugs, alcohol, and Viagra under a prostitute. I find the the latter thought actually quite appealing, but I'd rather wait my kids are grown up first.

I wonder why most of you guys still don't get it? Thai women marry elderly western men only for 2 reasons.

1.) The old guys got more money, because younger guys are still working, and haven't safed up much money yet, and are still out there enjoying their lifes, making mistakes. At least that's what the Thai women think, and they are not so wrong about that.

2.) The old guy dies faster, or quicker for that matter, and she would then inherit what he left and go look for a younger guy. Or for another asset (Falang) The older the better is what they say. "Old man big money, die quickly"

The Thai man understands that. Why do westerners have such difficulty?

And that brings me back to Guenther. He was 70. He decided to spent the remaining years he had in Thailand. He went to a less fortunate place on earth, so he could get served his coffee, had his laundry made, believed he was the "Tirak" and allowed and accepted to be walked down the road like a dog. It is out of the question if he got killed or not. He's dead . Died in Thailand at the age of 70. Fair enough. And on top of that he left money for less fortunate people like his Thai girlfriend.

In my POV Thailand is no country for old western men. Thais are tough. And if they wouldn't allow their women to pamper elderly rich westerners, walking them down the road, doing every little deed for them, because they can't even read the simplest road sign, then a lot of Falangs wouldn't stand a week in Thailand. But the Thais tolerate that. And the westerners do what? They always consider foul play at first.

Pfff....give me a brake. We are the outsiders in Thailand, and the Thais make that crystal clear. It can't get any clearer than that.

People live, and people die. Better a 70 year old, than a young guy. At the end the old have to make space for the young. It's just the way things are. One way, or another. And one day, it will be my turn, and yours, too. Your life expectansy diagnostic analyses won't help you there.

I understand you must think that I'm completely TING TONG. I probably am.

But at least I'm free, without any expectations for, or from me to someone else. And Guenther would have agreed with me. Because he must have known that his time was near.

Ask yourself. How long do you want to live? And then ask yourself why.

And a big applause for Guenther. I believe he lived a wonderful and long live, giving his last breath to the LOS.

Best Regards

Mr. TING TONG

I nominate this post for the Rubbish Rant Award.

Sorry but if you murder your husband surely you go and get a shovel and bury the evidence, or maybe a Barbeque.
You dont leave the body behind the house and go to Bangkok, and then return with the excuse you were in Bangkok, so it wasn't you.
The poor blighter probably just died of old age, or of stress and unhapiness and isolation and depression and heat and exhaustion and.... Thailand!

As far as I read the decomposed body showed-sure now, more difficult to recognize, signs of beating,

was behind the lands fence a bit away from the house, looked for police, like he climbed the fence, what he, in his fragile condition, would surely, not have done without good reason! (Trying to move away from the beating.)

The woman seemed to have thought same you,

-If I bury him, if I burn him and they find him, they think I could have done it!

If I just leave him there, they find him later, decomposed, beating not (easy) to see and I was in Bangkok!-

You remember, the -KataBeachBum- Ex-Member of our beloved Thaivisa Forum, he kept his dead Ex-GF body-evidence in his house in Phuket, for years, which was his downfall on the end! That is -Reasonable-?

The acting of the dead Guenters wife has at least a bit of a rational thinking in it!

Now 69 is a number I like! No matter what age I have.

Being a 70 year old and living in Issan with a younger wife I'm quite offended by Star Dust's remarks about the life expectancy of older men. I don't think any of us want to die under any circumstances, although it is of course inevitable. I suggest to Star Dust that he thinks about the time that he will be older. And of course try to remain out of prison, otherwise another term in a Thai gaol might see his chances of reaching old age diminish somewhat.

In the meantime, her income is not substantial enough for her to maintain the lifestyle we now have,

Sorry, without wanting to hurt you. But I guess she wouldn't need as much without you now.-wai2.gif

probably a sore throat from more than quarreling.....

How sad. RIP to the Austrian.

I know many people of different nationalities who have divorced their Thai wives. In every instance it was because large sums of money were spent, overtime, without the husband understanding where it went. Their wives could not explain it adequately and usually the discussion ended in a row with the wives screeching "you farang, no understand" etc etc. These wives were not all ex bar girls. Some were well educated and had businesses or professional careers before marriage.

Money seems to lead to huge issues here and these Thai wives all reacted very quickly and badly when challenged. It seems from the OP that this lady was prone to use violence.

They are well educated when it comes to separating a man from his life savings.

I don't like 'pussy footing' around but if I said what I really think it would be curtain time..

And you give real ladies a bad name by describing her (and many others) as such..

Why does Thai society produce so many women who want to kill?

Because it is the Thai women who rule and run Thailand.

Yes, sadly I know of 3 women who have murdered their spouse.

Think, that is the third Austrian killed in Udon province in the last 2-3 years, bah.gif

bloody austrians.. trouble, the lot of you tongue.png

a sad waste of life, seems to happen far too much here.. or they just don't have anything else better to report?? anyhow, Ruhe in Frieden

Things like this are inevitable given the high number of associations/marriages between older financially more secure western males and often women from the very bottom end of society (exceptions acknowledged).

You hit the nail on the head that is the point... older guy wants young wife.. wife wants money (and will try to cope with the old guy) . Sometimes it works.. sometimes it ends up like this.

What I see often when a financially secure middle class or above thai male has a much younger gf, often she is a bonafide university student being assisted in her studies, but not assisted to fund her relatives. This type of relationship is a lot safer than hooking up with a gal whose primary goal is to get money.
