Travelling To Thailand With A Travel Document

Featured Replies

Hi everyone

I am a refugee currently living in the UK and hold a UK Convention Travel Document (Blue passport like booklet) which is valid for the next 5 years.

I was wondering if Thailand recognizes that document as valid? (Apparently some Asian countries dont? ) if so will I need to apply for a visa beforehand? Or can I just ask for one on arrival?

I would appreciate any help or advice, I have looked all over the internet to find some information regarding this but could not sad.png This forum is my last hope !

Thanks smile.png

Unless you get some good advice here, newday, I'd suggest an email or phone call to any of the Thai embassies in the UK.

You are right to ask, as it's not obvious whether it will be accepted by either the airline you travel with or on entry to Thailand.

You could always scan your passport to a .pdf and email it to any of the Thai embassies to assist in their identifying your documentation.

This may be beyond the scope of Thaivisa... All I know is Thailand is not a signatory to many Conventions regarding Refugees.

I would seek serious advice from professionals.

Your document may not be valid in Thailand and on arrival you may be subject to all sorts of indignities.

You are not a British National entitled to visa-free entry, please consider this carefully.

From the UKBA website:

Travelling abroad using a convention travel document
When you have obtained your convention travel document, you may also need to obtain a visa before you enter some countries. Before making any travel arrangements, you should ask at the embassy of the country or countries you wish to travel to.
If you already have a convention travel document, it may say on page 30 that you do not need a visa for visits of three months or less to a number of listed countries. As the list of countries changes from time to time, you should ask at the embassy of the country or countries you wish to travel to before making any travel arrangements.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

You will need to get a visa from the embassy in London. A travel document cannot be used for a visa exempt entry.

Please note that Tourist Visa Exemption only applies to foreigners holding passports issued by the countries listed below. Travel documents for aliens issued by these countries are not acceptable.
