Another "where To Get" Question

Featured Replies

I know I can probably order online and get shipped in, but would prefer finding in a shop here in Phuket, a proper rain suit.

Like the postmen have in the U.S., jacket, hoody, pants that even cover the shoes.

Recently had a pretty nice large poncho type rain jacket, and some kook stole it off the back of my bike, but still even with those, the lower part of my pants and shoes always get soaked.

Anybody see anywhere here? Thanks in advance, GOM

I am pretty sure I saw some decent wet weather gear in the camping/outdoor section in Sportsworld, Central.

Check at the sports shops in places like Jungceylon or Central. Some place where they sell camping and fishing type stuff. I know I've seen them there before, but don't know the brands or quality. Definitely better than the 7-Eleven saran wrap ones though!

Phuket hunter in Kathu, opposite Makro may have something similar...

Ski N Surf in Kata on Thaina Rd is having some amazing sales right now as they are closing in November. Swimsuits are 50% off, for example. And they look authentic. Anyway, they carry several brands of snow ski gear, and I am sure I have seen shell style jackets and pants in there. May be expensive if not on sale but worth a look. It used to be the only place to buy snow ski gear in Phuket, but now all the Sports World's and SuperSports carry the same stuff.

If none of the above works out for you, maybe you could ask one of the yachties if he wants to sell one.

You don't need rain gear in Phuket. Everything, including the weather, is always perfect here.

You are always a ..... when responding to my posts. But nonetheless, I will give you a solid tip.

Drive up to Ranong. Fishing is big business there. Around the port area there a number of big shops that sell commercial fishing related supplies. Many of these shops carry good quality wet weather gear. I purchased great quality set of bib and brace pants and jacket there last year for 290THB.

Phronesis, no offense mate but 90% of the posts I've seen from you are bagging on Phuket.

I live here and like it here, even if my rose colored glasses are fogging things up.

Thank you for the tip, Ranong a bit far, but point taken on a fishing type shop. Cheers GOM

Thought I'd add this.

Was at Jungceylon yesterday. The first shop on the left as you walk inside from Ratty Rd main entrance (sorry I just don't pay attention to the names of the shops) has shoes and clothing on the main level. If you go upstairs they've got name brand stuff (Nike, etc.) and the place extends back quite far (towards the Port part of JC). At that far end they had North Face and Columbia brand rain gear. Good quality, though pricey. Can't remember exactly but around the ฿2,000 - ฿3,000 range.

The local police have these kind of things and they aren't paying 2000 baht, ask one of them.
