In Thailand's northeastern province of Khon Kaen, a small but distinctively inviting district called 'Wiang Kao' welcomes passers-by and other visitors.

With the higher elevations of surrounding hills formed like a volcanic crater, everyone appreciates the views of the little town.

And its not only the scenery, as this small district with only a few inhabitants has stories from prehistory. Dinosaur skeletal remains were found at Phuwiang National Park almost 40 years ago while geologists were exploring for uranium.

The types of dinosaurs discovered were both new and already known breeds, both carnivores and herbivores. Some breeds were able to be traced back over 130 million years. A wealth of knowledge on these ancient beast was collected and displayed at the 'Phu Wiang Dinosaur Museum'.

"I'm impressed. I like it here. Inside the museum, they provide good knowledge to the kids. Also, this area is full of trees, and it's nice to chill out, just hang out here," said Ampai Naka, a tourist.

Meanwhile, 'Sriwiang Dinosaur Park' is an outdoor dinosaur park for all kinds of visitors to study the animals through their reconstructed replicas. Visitors can place coin in a dinosaur replica so it will roar and move to impress and frighten passers-by.

"This is something natural and interesting, suitable for tourists loving ecological tourism, tourists who like nature, history, and archaeology," said Somsak Suwansujarit, Khon Kaen Governor.

Khon Kaen province is collecting more information and planning to set up a local geological park to conserve natural resources in the area in order that it will become a tourist attraction as well as the country's heritage.

It's not the only prehistoric park. There's another one about halfway between Kalasin and the city of Somdet on highway 213. Somdet is along 213 about 30 kilometers northeast out of Kalasin.
