Conflicting Retirement Visa Requirements

Featured Replies

My initial 90 day period before receiving a one year retirement visa ends June 16.

The issuing immigration officer in April told me to return to their office May 16 which

I did today. A different officer said to return on or before June 16 with proof of 800 K Baht

in the bank AND a letter from my embassy confirming a monthly stipend of 65000 K.

Two officers, two different "views" of protocol. 1) one said to appear 30 days before June 16,

the other said to appear on or before June 16. Which officer is correct? 2) one said a bank

letter verifying 800 K is sufficient, the other said a bank letter and an embassy letter is

required. Which officer is correct? Or do I just hope to get lucky the next time I go.

Which office?

There is a miscommunication issue here.

To apply for your annual retirement extension go in sometime during the ONE MONTH before the actual expiration date of your current permission to stay. You don't need to go in any specific date and waiting until the last day is very foolhardy.

The financial requirements are:

800K in Thai bank seasoned two months first extension, three months subsequent ones. For this method, absolutely NO embassy letter! (You need a very fresh immigration letter from the BANK.)

OR

65K monthly income verified by embassy letter

OR

800K in COMBO of bank account and income. For combo, you need an embassy letter for the income amount. The banked amount does not need seasoning (excepting a few oddball provincial offices). Also immigration letter from BANK needed.

I assume you already have an O visa. You are NOT applying for a retirement visa. You are applying for an annual extension based on retirement.

A visa is something you can only get at a Thai consulate, it allows you to travel to the kingdom.

What you are now looking for is an extension of stay based on retirement. Just so the right wording is used to not mess up things.

In the last 30 days of your current permission to stay you can apply for the extension. If you follow the bank 800.000 route, you need to show an updated bankbook, and a letter from the bank that the money has been in the account for the required time, which for a first time extension should be 60 days.

If you follow the income path, you will need a letter from your embassy confirming a monthly income of 65000K.

If you would like a combination of the two you will need all paperwork described.

2.22 In the case of a retiree: Permission will be granted for a period
of not more than 1 year at a time.

(1) The alien has obtained a temporary
visa (NON-IM);

(2) The applicant is 50 years of age or over;

(3) Proof of income of not less than Baht 65,000 per month; or

(4) Account deposit with a bank in Thailand of not less than

800,000 Baht as shown in the bank account for the past 3 months at the filing
date of the application. For the first year, the applicant should have that
amount in his bank account for not less than 60 days or

(5) Annual income plus bank account deposit totaling not less

than Baht 800,000 as of the filing date of application

If using income you need a letter from your Embassy verifying income amount.

If using savings you need a letter from your bank plus up to date bank book.

It sounds like the OP might think that he needs 1,600,000 baht, not 800K baht!w00t.gif It's only 800K baht via bank account, income, or a combo. Cheers.

If the OP can state his office, someone may have more specific localized advice.

Also now that the three choices of methods have been clarified, the OP might want to state which method he intends to use. Then further communication here can focus on that specific method (bank / income / combo).

Apply up to 30 days early.

Money in the bank is proven with an updated bankbok and letter from your bank.

Income is proven with a letter from your embassy. Your embassy decides on what they need to issue that letter.
