Or when some moron of a commentator talks about defoe's natural strikers instinct to shoot just after the useless berk has again hoofed a perfectly good chance into top tier row z.

its a real sign of Englands aweful lack of quality up top that Defoe is anywhere near the national team set up

Reminds me a bit of the 'not interfering with play' thingy.

Remember the brilliant comment from Jimmy Hill?

'He's a professional footballer. If he's not interfering with play, <deleted> is he doing on the pitch.'

Totally agree. If a striker is not interfering with the net....

IMHO I am not totally convinced by Mr Hodgson. But that's a different topic I suppose.

Defoe rarely interferes with the net!

whats so irritating about him is that when he does score its often a cracker which is all people remember.

not the endless wasted opportunities (his ratio of converted chances is appalling btw) and the rest of his contribution to the game which is practically zilch.

Any truth in the rumour that Roy is in danger of keeping the England job?

I would imagine the FA loves him and i also doubt whether any of them understand a different formation than 4-4-2 either. Its a marriage made in heaven.

i'm already dreading seeing the way opponents are going to carve through us at the next world cup. You can't take a flat old hat formation like he plays to the world cup and not expect to be taken apart.

ooops but i digress!!biggrin.png

TOTTENHAM lead the race to sign James McCarthy from Wigan, though the relegated club want £20m for the prized 22-year-old midfielder.

He's good, but not worth £4m more than Santi (...... Cazorlasmile.png). Levy would be better placed spending that kind of money on a striker

The sort of player you would expect in a CL spot team, I'm not sure? Lets not forget he's now a premiership player and he didn't really take the Premier League by storm. The money is getting silly....20 Million!!

yeah cant see him being worth anywhere near 20 mil, wigan need a reality check, he's had one good season in a team that got relegated and next season he'll be playing in the championship and given half a season there,he'll be just another ex prem player and his price WILL DROP DRAMATICALLY wigan have got him under contract until 2016, but on the other hand I don't suppose he's enchanted with having his wages cut.

he's an excellent midfielder. get him for 12m or so and he's a cracking buy.

I agree that between 10-12 Million would be a good investment.

Fairly strongly backed reports coming out of Spain that Arsenal have offered €30 million for Higuain, which is what Real were asking and is also reportedly €8 million ahead of Juventus's offer.

Can it be that the tight one, now having cash, finds it burning a hole in his pocket? Somehow I doubt it - though I would welcome it as a one-off game changer - even if the source is reportedly Higuain's own biographer.

(does everyone get a biography written half way through their career these days?)

No one wants to read Beckham's biography now.....he's a fading star.

Get in while the going is good. ;)

You'd be surprised how passionate some fans are about their players, any players as long as in their team.

I thought Gerrard was a great read
