Does anyone know the dates of either the Huay Tung Tao or the Mae On mini festivals this year?

I went to HTT about this time last year and it was a lot of fun.

I cant help on the local dates, its certainly not the set up like it is in Isaan. I tend to go every other year to Phanom Phrai near Yasothon. real boys toys stuff....downright dangerous aswell.

if you have an opportunity to see the real Bang Fai competition then I suggest you dont bother with what Chiang mai offers.

I've been every year for the past 7 years to my wife's mother's village near to Sisaket and once to Yasothon. I prefer the village festivals - dancing in the streets whilst parading the rockets on the day before the big event then the main day with the great atmosphere. Sure, CM can't equal that but it was still a good day out at HTT last year and if it's happening again this year, I'd like to be there.

Rumour has it that the Mai On rocket do is on the 12th, 13th and 14th of July - the big day being Sunday the 14th. I went on all three days last year with a friend but this time will probably go on the Saturday and stay over for Sunday's fun although given the traffic, maybe going Sunday morning and staying over till Monday makes better sense. Any way, it's good but dangerous(ish) fun.

Some rockets are perfect.......

Some are a bit wobbly.....

and a few are simply lethal.

Yasothon is awesome but the small town rocket festivals are great fun too, and you can see it all up close if you dare..
