American Teacher Charged With Bank Robbery In Bangkok Bank

Those who want more respect for English teachers and perhaps the many professional theives who take pride in their work , can not be happy with this guy's inadept and desparate crime. For his sake I hope he has family in the US who are willing to pay a large sum of money ... if not, I think it's very likely his punishment will greatly exceed the stress and duress he caused the bank employees. I personally don't feel this reflects on teachers or Americans as much as it does on the portion of the population in every country prone to very stupid and self destructive acts..

Yesterday there was lots of crying and wining about two Russians stealing two hats at the night bazaar and increadible suffering brought to Thailand by Russians. How about now?

Did they make any grammar or spelling mistakes?

One man loses the plot and now it's bash all Yanks.

Pathetic.

Why couldn't it have been a Muslim losing the plot, allowing for these blokes to go on the generic bash? Life just isn't fair.

Never thought either premise was valid.

Who cares what nationality he was? Majority of expats or long time workers in LOS are from UK,US, Oz or Germany. There was a good chance he'd be from one of these countries. Russians and Chinese don't need the cash with their elite cards and Arabs never steal because of their muslim beliefs :) <deleted> me, lighten up everybody and learn to laugh again....

I,m all admiration. At least the guy had the guts to go into a bank and do a "Bonnie and Clyde" (sans Bonnie), unlike the eastern european scum who are stealing billions while sitting in complete safety at a computer with stolen credit and ATM card information.

I have never had a high opinion of English Teachers in Thailand but this chap is barely literate in the language.

How on earth could someone like this get a job teaching?!

Patrick

I'm sure English teachers have a low opinion of snobs like you. Not all English teachers are scumbags. A lot of them love what they do and contribute greatly to this country. Next timr, engage your brain before typing

You are right, the qualified teachers, in the main, are not scumbags. Unfortunately many are not qualified to teach others and regardless of whether they love what they do or not they can contribute great harm to those who think they are learning good English from them.

It depends what you mean by "qualified". If you mean a degree and a TEFL certificate, then no, that isn't qualified.

However if you mean, having taught English for a few years, you're employment record is good, your employers and students like you and your students are learning English then yes, that's what being qualified is all about.

I am struggling to comprehend that the person that wrote that note is here teaching kids English. Looks to be written by a 5 year old.

You should take the time to have a chat with some foreign English teachers in this country smile.png

Sadly, a white face and a pulse seem to be all that are required for some positions here!

Understood. Was making a broader point with tongue firmly in cheek. By no means directed at you.

I'm sure the note was made to look like it wasn't him nor his writing. Duh.

BTW, bash the yanks if you come from a small socialist country on the brink of collapse & have gotten a lot of US aid over the course of the past few decades (or would otherwise be speaking German right now).

If you are referring to WW2 then it is the Russians who deserve the credit for destroying the nazi war machine. If not for their sacrifice the war could have had a very different outcome.

May all problems would be solved-efficiently ....

People robbing bank now days rarely get away with it.

This has nothing to do with teacher's wages or being American...it's about being a moron and possibly unstable.

At least now he'll get 3 hots and a cot in the monkey house. He has fulfilled his dreams of finding a means to extend his stay in LOS. lol

Listening to the news on Televison this morning, my long haired translator (wife app) said that he had 2 or 3 wives/girlfriends and liked to gamble and go to go go bars ( the latter, the wife app, has banned me from....lol)

Can't see anything about this on the original news report, any Thai speakers pick this up n the news???

Interesting to know what motivated him to do such a stupid thing, as on paper being a teacher, should have more sense.

PS I would like a job......which school was it??? As there appears to be a vacancy (shame I'm not a teacher)

Iranian?

Good one. But your earlier post sucked. Except for abuse of case (upper/lower), the omission of the article "a" (explained), and lack of any punctuation (acceptable in memo format) everything written in that note was flawless in terms of grammar and spelling. Anyone who tells you differently is linguistcally moronic. In fact it was his pedantic approach to grammar that led me to identify him as an American teacher. (See page 7)

Sometimes a pedantic approach is necessary. For instance, this news story is about a bank robbery, not an English class.

If you still don't understand, print this out and show it to your favorite bank teller.

It's wild how an American messes up and the put down is so great.

Most of ya don't know your history very well.If it hadn't been for Americans all of europe would be speaking german, italian or Japanese.

you need to brush up on yours. Russia not America was the driving force behind the nazi regimes defeat, just as they accounted for Napoleon.

Speaks volumes for American english teachers.

Here we go.
Ya..., let's ask the better question here; how many English speaking "teachers" here do you know that actually got their BAs in English or Education? It's a miserable joke when considering the numbers. Fact is many come with best of intentions and try to become educators. Many others come for "the party" and have no business even walking back into classroom, let alone as the teacher. It's a travesty.

Agree!

My six year old son has a homeroom teacher from somewhere in the UK. Her credentials list a degree in Theology, and not much else. Definitely no training as an educator, with precious little to speak of in terms of actual teaching experience. She sent a routine generic note informing parents about the school activities, and I was so tempted to send it back graded, with corrections. A travesty indeed.

If allegations prove true and the 62 year old English teacher really did rob that bank, then he should also be made to answer for all the errors in his note. His biggest mistake was not having much of a plan. Getting caught was inevitable.

So did he walk into the bank without a mask, look straight into the camera, hand the teller his note, a copy of his ID card and then drive his own motorcycle away from the robbery so the BiB could find him quickly?

And how far would 350,000 get you before you had to do it again, 6-7 months?
