Devere Financial Advisors

Featured Replies

I have received a number of telephone calls from a company who say they are Devere (Not De Beer) Financial advisors. They say they can save me tax and increase my pension fund (Royal Mail UK) if I go "off shore". I assume they are shysters and will not be taking up their offer but wonder if others on TVF have received these phone calls or have more information about the company.

There has been a lot talked about Devere on The Motley Fool website - Boards - Investors Roundtable - International Expat Investing

http://boards.fool.co.uk/international-expat-investors-50919.aspx

Apparently one of the headings is about losing their licence in Belgium but I have not bothered to read it. Generally Devere and problems always seem to be in the same sentence in my perambulations around the interweb.

The financial services sector in Thailand is essentially unregulated, the protections you would have moving pensions or buying investments back home don't exist here.

Regardless of what kind of outfit Devere's is the lack of the legal protections you would enjoy back home should be enough to tell you not to do any business with them or any other such outfit in Thailand.

Agreed, hence my comment "I assume they are shysters and will not be taking up their offer"

I would never use any financial company that has to cold call to get business. Surely that's obvious !!!!!????

De Vere's is a South-African company and the largest company of financial advisers in the world. You should note that they are just brokers and nothing more, their products will be through companies like Friends Provident,Hansa,Aviva et al.

Of course you will get better rates offshore because they are not accessible by the taxman, although if you live in the UK it's probably illegal to do so!I work as a Financial Adviser between China and Thailand and considered joining De Vere's but must admit I was slightly put off by the stories I heard about their representatives working without work permits and their aggressive sales tactics but that's business!
The companies who's pensions they are selling are all massive global conglomerates,Aviva use to be Norwich Union for example so it's highly unlikely you'll have any problems with their products, maybe just the taxman as mentioned before!w00t.gif

Nothing more than glorified boiler-room scum, or so I've been lead to believe.

A good rule of thumb is never to use financial advisors based in Thailand.
