How To Modify Engine To Use Gasohol?

Featured Replies

I have a 22 year old Toyota Mighty X with a petrol (benzine) engine. Since benzeine had gotten harder to find, and expensive, relative to the gasohol fuels, I was thinking of having my engine modified to use them. I've heard something about just chagning some rubber fuel lines to plastic. Do any of the experts know what really needs to be done, a rough price, and above all, will my dear old mighty x be OK with the gasohol fuels?

Thank you.

Do it Thai style... Fill it up with Gasohol and see what breaks, then replace/recondition it :)

as its a carb engine you will have to replace the fuel lines and probably the carb internals like diaphram. Not expensive maybe 1500b.

it would probably pay to have the fuel tank drained as well and make sure that you put a decent big fuel filter inline before the carb.

have fun.

As its not diesel, how about installing a gas system instead? At 22 years old, it may not have long left mind.

Nearest Toyota dealer and ask them to order a conversion kit, you may be surprised by them saying it will be OK on gasohol 91 anyway.

I'm assuming you are not doing it for tax evasion purposes then.

22 year old Mighty X will run on virtually anything combustible.

It will but also the gasohol will cause damage to the fuel pipes etc.

I know this was said tongue in cheek, but it does make sense - you hardly want to go to the expense of replacing the entire fuel system from float to carby in a 22yo car "just in case". I say start pumping in gasohol and keep a regular eye on it :)
