Married In England - Divorced In Thailand

Featured Replies

An English friend of mine (yes we do have English friends) was married with his Thai wife in England 10 or 12 years ago, they moved to Thailand about 7 years ago but things have not turned out too well.

They are separated and are aiming for a divorce and have agreed about everything asset wise, so no issues i don't think.

He is just looking for some advice on how to proceed, he is getting on a bit and not really internet savvy.

The question is this, they did register their marriage at the local amphur in Thailand when they arrived here and got the documents (cant remember what they are called), as the divorce is going to be uncontested can they simply go to the amphur where it was registered and have the divorce done, or do they have to go through the English channels?

They seem to be still speaking and quite calm, they just want to move on.

Experienced answers only please - no speculation.

They can go to any amphur and get a divorce. Choose one with a lot of foreigners, so they know how to proceed.
