Are you talking of a global currency? If inflation was equal across the continents, and the cost of living/wage structure the same, it might work. Until that happens, there is nothing viable about it. Europe already tried that.....................

Accordingly, those currencies will appreciate against "western-currencies" as a matter of economic fact. So, all those Farangs, planning on living in Thailand for the next 15 years (on a fixed retirement pensions from overseas), are in for a rude awakening as time goes on. Cheers.

Do you mean A: What if one USD = one baht ? or B: What if the median Thai household had the same material standard of living as the average American? In other words, what if all Thais suddenly increased their income by 500%? Many Thais believe the two questions mean the same thing, I assume you're not making the same mistake. . .

I imagine Bangkok would be more like Singapore, or Tokyo. But it's not like Singapore or Tokyo, so the Baht won't match the US dollar. SC

The US$ of the time was 90% silver and had a weight of about 27 grams, both currencies bound by the gold standard. Lets say $1 = 2 Baht a little more than 100 years ago. What happened to cause the divergence since?
