Visa run or not?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I would appreciate any help I can get on this: My work permit expired 31/03. After that, the agency issued me a new Non B which expires on 02/07. I ended up changing agencies and went to work at a new school. The new school asked me to cancel my work permit so they can start the process to get me a new one. I don't know if they know what they are doing and frankly I am new at this so I don't know what's right or wrong either. I went to the labor department where I originally got the permit and had them cancel it. What is my next step? Can the new school issue the necessary documents to me without me having to leave the country? Or can I go back into immigration and the labor department and hopefully be done with it?

I look forward to reading your answers.

Where did the agency get the visa from? If they got it for you outside of Thailand then okay, if however, they got it from the local Immigation office in Thailand then it is cancelled as soon as you lose or resign from that position, therefore you are now on overstay. A new visa to work would have to be obtained outside of Thailand

They got the visa at the Immigration office in Bangkok. Afterwards with my single re-entry I traveled to Indonesia and then came back. I went to cancel the permit last week so I'm hoping the 7 days would have began then. Do you have any idea what this penalty will cost me? How can I rectify this situation? Anyone ever go to KL for a visa run? --Thank you!

There is no 7 days.

Your permission to stay ends on the day your employments ends.

Unless you applied for a 7 day extension.

The overstay fine is 500 Baht a day.

As far as I know you need to apply for another Visa at a Thai Consulate in a neighbouring country.

The overstay fine can be paid at the airport when leaving.

Hopefully someone will be along soon with more information.

Thanks Lite Beer! Basically, suck it up, pay the fine and get out. I need to apply for a new visa with the new school, correct? This has to be done outside the country, right? Can I do this in KL, Malaysia?

Hijacking thread slightly but similar topic..

Normally I am on a Non O marriage but didn't renew this time back in UK as I have another short contract beginning on 7th July. So I came in on the 30 day visa exemption, which expires on 6th July !! Is it really worth paying for a 7 day extension at 1900 baht, or just pay the 500 for a 1 day overstay ? Would it really affect any future visa applications, bearing in mind my passport is nearly full and due for renewal..

Thanks and sorry to jump in but the Title caught my eye.

Don't think it will effect future visa applications, but if you overstay, you will get a stamp in you passport which says that you have overstayed, and when immigration officials (for example when applying for a extension of Stay) scrutinizes your passport they will notice it and could start asking question.

If it was me I would pay the 1900 THB for the 7 day extension, but because your passport is almost full, Up 2 You thumbsup.gif

Can be done at any consulate.

You can do it in KL.

Penang is closer.
