June 17, 201313 yr Chalerm lambasts move to probe his Rolls RoyceBy Digital MediaBANGKOK, June 17 – Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yubamrung today rejected an allegation that he failed to pay the full tax for his Rolls Royce.Former senator Ruangkrai Leekitwatana filed a complaint with the Department of Special Investigation (DSI), charging Mr Chalerm with evading tax for the Rolls Royce, carrying a licence plate Por Or 4444, which he recently drove to Government House.Mr Chalerm said earlier that he bought the luxury car at Bt26 million but Mr Ruangkrai argued that the car should cost Bt37 million if the deputy prime minister paid tax in full. The deputy prime minister said today the Rolls Royce which belongs to his son’s Singaporean business partner was legally imported with tax payment in full to the Customs Department.“It is not a reassembled car. The Singaporean owner who left two of them with me mortgaged them with a financial company,” Mr Chalerm said.He said he would discuss with his lawyer to see if he should file a counter-lawsuit against Mr Ruangkrai.DSI director general Tarit Pengdith said investigators will look into Mr Ruangkrai’s allegation against the deputy prime minister.Meanwhile, the DSI will launch its one-stop service centre tomorrow to check the legality of 548 luxury cars to determine if they were legally bought by their owners. June 17, 201313 yr DSI director general Tarit Pengdith said investigators will look into Mr Ruangkrai’s allegation against the deputy prime minister. In this case,"look into" means call Dubai. I'm sure an impartial decision will be made 5555555555555555.
June 17, 201313 yr One law for us ,another for them, thats the way it will always be. regards Worgeordie
June 17, 201313 yr Its all falling into place now. Whats the odds that this son's Singaporean partner is called Ai Burd?
June 17, 201313 yr “It is not a reassembled car. The Singaporean owner who left two of them with me mortgaged them with a financial company,” Mr Chalerm said. because that is how everyone buys motor vehicles.
June 17, 201313 yr Please! As if Tarit would have the guts to investigate one of his boss's cronies. What a joke!
June 17, 201313 yr Popular Post "How DARE you speak up to me???" A typical ignorant reaction for the highest ranking government officials who abuse the law the way they see fit...
June 17, 201313 yr Karma. He said he would discuss with his lawyer to see if he should file a counter-lawsuit against Mr Ruangkrai. And with the lawyers chance to charge 50K per day for another class action, what do you think the answer will be?........mmmmmmm Edited June 17, 201313 yr by GentlemanJim
June 17, 201313 yr Popular Post There would be a paper trail if he paid the correct tax. This should be an open and closed issued if he has the paperwork.
June 17, 201313 yr Popular Post This is priceless..... :-) When this luxury car story first broke, my very first thought was Chalerm and his ridiculous pink Bentley. And sure enough, apparently that occurred to the Democrats as well. Why the hell is he performing lambasting on anyone?? All he has to do is smile, provide all the paperwork showing tax was paid in full, end of story, and he would make Ruangkrai Leekitwatana look foolish. Instead Chalerm is yapping on about counter lawsuits... Looking on the bright side, if he is caught red handed evading the car tax, perhaps this would be a good time for Yingluck to throw him under the bus.. :-) Edited June 17, 201313 yr by EyesWideOpen
June 17, 201313 yr If it was bought and paid for by someone else, what you pay that person second hand is irrelevant. Presumably there is a tax invoice somewhere at the bottom of some customs guys desk showing what customs received for it.
June 17, 201313 yr There would be a paper trail if he paid the correct tax. This should be an open and closed issued if he has the paperwork.Yes. But could get tricky if he continues to assert that the cars were only 'left with him'.
June 17, 201313 yr Popular Post "bought it for 26 million' followed by 'Rolls Royce which belongs to his sons Singaporean business partner', 'mortgaged them with a financial company', 'left them with me'.So, a car our Dept. PM Pol. Captain Chalerm bought was only left with him as mortgaged to creditors? And this chap not only is a former Pol. Captain but he even has a doctor's degree in Law?

But could get tricky if he continues to assert that the cars were only 'left with him'. An interesting weasel move to claim the car is owned by someone else. But according to his statement in the story, he is claiming tax has been paid. So I guess if somehow the tax has not been paid, Chalerm feels he will be off the hook. It is always tricky to try and pin down a snake... :-) "The deputy prime minister said today the Rolls Royce which belongs to his son’s Singaporean business partner was legally imported with tax payment in full to the Customs Department." And to add extra humor, it appears he actually owns two of these cars. One with a license number of 4444 as mentioned in this story, and one with 2222 as shown in the photo below Edited June 17, 201313 yr by EyesWideOpen

June 17, 201313 yr What gets me is that 26 million is more than 90% of Thais will ever own in assets in a lifetime, and he nonchalantly drops that on a car. So much for representing the poor, of course they don't bat an eyelid at it. 26 million is more than the average Thai will earn in a lifetime let alone save, even after you count inflation. Ridiculous.

June 17, 201313 yr It was perhaps naive, to think that PTP might tell Tart & the DSI to go after the rich owners of super-cars, without expecting questions to be raised about their own more-modest (?) sets-of-wheels ! Definitely a fun thread, well worth following,
June 17, 201313 yr Chaleum is just another glaring example of how positive guidence by a family, education system, and a society must be given participants with some good traits to have any chance of success, in producing a indivadul who makes a positive contribution to society.

Cast the mote from thine own eye. Without making a major research project out of it, it appears to be a Bentley to me. Think the original news report made a mistake calling it a Rolls. And in fact appears to be a sister car to Paris Hilton's Bentley...Keep an eye out for the little set of wings in the front of the car. :-) Edited June 17, 201313 yr by EyesWideOpen
June 17, 201313 yr Remember this headline from a few days ago? BANGKOK: -- Justice Minister Pracha Promnok has instructed the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) to help people when they're called on to submit luxury cars for inspection. Someone asked on another thread what he meant by that. Interesting to se now what happens.
