BANGKOK: -- Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yoobamrung yesterday warned protesters wearing white Guy Fawkes' masks against changing their protest site, saying they would be exposed to bomb attacks by "third parties".

However, his warning was seen by the opposition and critics as a veiled threat against the demonstrators, whose numbers have been steadily increasing in recent weeks.

Chalerm, meanwhile, has insisted that he had good intentions because intelligence officers had learned that certain third-party groups were threatening to create a disturbance by launching bomb attacks against the protesters.

The anti-government white-mask group does not have a clear leader, and organises its protests through Facebook.

"If the white-mask people roam around and someone lobs a grenade at them, who will be held responsible? Eventually, it will be the government," Chalerm warned.

He said the government was not trying to stop the group from demonstrating but they should stay in one place instead of continuously changing location.

"We will take care of you, white masks, but if you move around and an explosion occurs, what will happen then?" Chalerm said, adding that the movement should rally at the Royal Plaza, Sanam Luang or outside Lumpini Park.

He said the group could continue attacking the government, provided they did not move their protest location and exposed themselves to bomb attacks.

Chalerm had already previously warned white-mask protesters that they might be attacked, however, his comments yesterday were more specific, claiming that intelligence officers had learned that they might be a direct target.

The protesters yesterday posted a message on the "V for Thailand" Facebook page that the group was not afraid of such attacks and they had 200 volunteer guards. Moreover, it said, ensuring Thai citizens' safety was the government's responsibility.

Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva, meanwhile, said that if the protesters were attacked then Chalerm would be held personally responsible because he was in charge of security affairs.

Abhisit said Chalerm should have taken action to protect the protesters when he learned about the potential bomb attacks, instead of issuing veiled threats.

In response to Abhisit's comments, Chalerm said he was not issuing threats, but merely wanted to warn the demonstrators of the dangers they might face.

"Abhisit doesn't have to teach me about responsibility. I am a police officer and I am well aware that if people are killed, I will have to issue an apology and maybe even face legal action," Chalerm said, alluding to the 98 deaths during the 2010 government crackdown on red-shirt protesters by the Abhisit government.

Chalerm also alleged that the Democrats were behind the white-mask group.

"If they [the Democrat Party] were not been behind the white masks, the group would not have grown so quickly," Chalerm said.

Suriyasai Katasila, coordinator of the Green Politics Group, agreed that Chalerm appeared to be intimidating the white-mask movement. He added that the government had the duty to oversee security and prevent violence, but Chalerm appeared to be inciting opponents of the white-mask group to use violence against them.

"This kind of talk suggests that the government has malicious intent against the white-mask group," Suriyasai said.

He added that intimidating the group would only lead to them gaining more public sympathy and support.

Even if PTP were so soundly thrashed at the next election that not a single constituency candidate was elected, a mere few thousand votes nationwide would be enough to elect arguably the 2 worst politicians in the country to office under the party list system. Deputy PM Chalerm: Govt still strong despite rice pledging scheme

BANGKOK, 22 June 2013 (NNT) - Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yubamrung has expressed confidence that the rice pledging scheme and ongoing political protests will not damage the government’s stability.

Regarding protests by the White Mask Group, Mr Chalerm said the group was allowed to gather but it should not relocate for security and order reasons. He also assumed that the Opposition Democrat Party was a supporter of the White Mask Group.

The deputy premier confirmed the government would not dissolve Parliament. He said he believed both the controversial rice pledging program and political demonstrations at present would not affect the stability of the administration as the matters were not corruption-related.

Mr Chalerm was confident that farmers’ discontent with the reduction of rice pledging price would be resolved after the government talked to them.

Here is a way around the Rice Pledging Scheme: all poor farmers are made employees of the government on contract on minimum wage, first member of the household is paid B9,000 a month, spouse is paid 50% and 25% for each child up to 3. This would give a poor rice farmer with 3 kids an annual salary of Baht 243,000. Deduct the average cost of planting/harvesting rice as about 48,000 baht per annum on 3 Rai with 2.5 harvests and he has a net of Baht 195,000 for the year. When not planting rice he must provide community service in his village and district including cleaning roadsides, community projects up to 10 hours per week, 4 weeks off per year. His children must attend school until Year 12, if they drop out then the extra for them is cut and they have to work on another rice farmers land for the remaining years left in school. Not applicable for companies and co-ops. Then all rice from that farmer, according to agreed minimum is pledged to the government, not through middle men. This way the farmers get a living wage, the government nationalises rice for poor people, poor farmers keep their land. This is more costly than the rice pledging scheme per tonne but it means that poor farmers and their families are the direct beneficiaries and not big companies/agro businesses and not middle men. so taking out the big company production it should average out as a better deal for tax payers, better deal for farmers. Penalty for ripping off the system for government officials - forced to become unpaid rice planter for rest of life. Penalty for Politicians getting involved - Death. Penalty for agro-business trying to scam into the system - 10% of revenues average for past 5 years from all companies/subsidiaries. Penalty for village headmen and district chiefs ripping off poor illiterate farmers, lose position and have to work for poor illiterate farmers for rest of life picking mud crabs and weeds out of the rice paddy fields. Nationalise and control, this way its much easier for the government to look good and for their cronies for find more loopholes to make money. Just being helpful.

People here in Thailand just dont get it, the Guy Fawkey maskes or white mask as they they are called, are part of the Occupy movement, which is it in dispair mode; In Turkey where things are getting totally out of hand, things have become far too agressive and many have died and police are tumbleling down upon normal stand up citizen, but do we hear anything?? No .

Same goes for Brazil which became very bloody, yesterday and many got killed, Syria also have had a loong time Occupy Movement, The Occupy movement had a big success against Monsanto and Dupont just with in last month peacefull and without any casulties, but that also was totally cut out from any media.

The Occupy movement is pissing governments off because they dont have leaders they are not made from a political stand point but from people who just had enough and want change, the change even differs from each person, but the goal is the same, they want better living conditions or they will perish. Occupy-Wall street is still there nothing has changed since last year when the protest started there and that goes for every occupy is every major and small country, England, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Switzerland, Holland, Italy, Spain China, Japan, and Egypt and many more. They all protest for different things as I said, but again the message is the same but all want better living conditions, be it Nuclear Fukushima, Food Poisoning from GMO food, illigal wars from US, corruption or simply better schools and the freedom to own a garden for our children. I believe media and government soon cannot keep a lit on this and it will escalate to something totally out of propotion, unless some start to listen, this not a normal protestor, that when the money runs out, they will simply leave due to some rich dudes hunger for power, these protesters have no solution and want change, and really dont have a choice.

"We are the many" is their motto, yes 2% runs the world, and the rest of us must suffer under their suppression, In Thailand the problem I think is the corruption, the money, that is spend on questionable things and people want answers now. Did he say there would be any restrictions placed on the red shirts, like they would be told where they could and could not go.

Looked to me like the only trouble associated with those wearing white masks happened when they were attacked by red shirts or, as was the case in BKK, when they were approached in what they saw as a threatening manner by reds on motorbikes.

And now Chalelerm has intelligence (some may question that) that there are bomb threats against the white masks by 'he knows who but wont tell'.

There has only been one group who have been harassing the white masks and they have a past history of violence so it would not be unreasonable to assume the same group was the one making the threats.

Some of the leaders of that group are PT MP's so it would also not be unreasonable to assume that should the group that have been harassing the white masks be the ones making the threats then the party which the leaders represent would also be involved.
