"No Drinking Day" to be promoted in hopes to reduce accidents and crimes

BANGKOK, 22 June 2013 (NNT) –The Public Health Ministry is set to push forward the “No Drinking Day” campaign in hopes to reduce accidents and crimes.

After a meeting with related agencies, Public Health Minister Pradit Sintavanarong said the “No Drinking Day” can no longer be promoted on the same day as the Buddhist Lent as the religious festival changes every year.

The ministry will, therefore, set up a specific day to promote the no drinking campaign. The minister said it should be promoted on the day the number of accidents are high such as December 31, January 1, or during Songkran festival.

However, he said the move will have to be approved by the cabinet first. Furthermore, the minister said he would also be looking for an approval by international organizations like the World Health Organization or WHO to make the "No Drinking Day" official.

New year's eve without drinking? Insane!

Sure, making New Years Eve a 'no drinking day' will be a great success. Like to see them enforce that.

Wonder if the plonker Minister and his family would set an example.

I am a non drinker, but I think its crazy just raise public awareness by education this is just a farce. Having a good law enforcement catching people who drink and drive helps too. Not one that lets them go for a couple of 100 bt

When Thailand will get rid of those clowns and start to be credible !? Not tomorrow unfortunately sad.png

Why not promote better education and Information !!!

How about June 10th..... Chalerm's birthday!

and he can be Sponsor and Abstainer in Chief for the day, no finer candidate.

Oh yeah...because all the Buddhist- days,, where you are not allowed to drink, helped so much with the crimes- and accident statistics.

Why not another one, instead of enforcing existing laws on traffic or (now here comes a wild idea) actually putting criminals like hi-so wife beaters or cop- killers into jail, so "small" criminals will see that laws are there to be upheld and acted upon.

The thing with Thailand is, it ever fails to amaze me.

Unfortunately more and more for the worse!

So not satisfied with all the no alcohol days due to religious holidays or elections some clown wants to make New Years Eve a no drinking day?????

Although I WOULD support a no alcohol during Songkran fortnight in Pattaya campaign.

How about a no ear medicine day?

All they need to do is promote elections and general elections as also non drinking days.

Should be one coming and numerous repeat elections due by about the end of the year.

What do they have in place of brain cells.

Why not promote better education and Information !!!

that can't happens, than the elite will lose

Oh dear, I thought Thailand was on the road to recovery, the patient is far sicker than first thought , this among other momentous decisions are at worse stupid or the management is full of croc sh!!t, this equals the milk episode a few weeks back. I just love the entertainment.smile.png

If by "no drinking" they mean little stalls selling booze everywhere in front of the police like they do during Songkran, then I think it will be a huge success.

How about February 30th?

Why not promote better education and Information !!!

Because educating the lower classes would break their caste system. The last thing they want is farmers becoming educated and finding out they have been swindled for generations.

can i suggest double standards:

1. that this only apply to Thai's

2. that hotels and pubs allow only falang to drink

3. that wine be excluded from any such ban

4. that scotch over 12 years be excluded

5. that cognac be exluded

6. that the hours for buying alcohol exclude farang

7. that drinking be banned on all beaches and car parks again Thai's only

dont laugh as its as stupid as their suggestion of a no drinking day

dont attack me as I have been drinking burp.gif, I have had an accident and at my age this is a crime sorry.gif

Furthermore, the minister said he would also be looking for an approval by international organizations like the World Health Organization or WHO to make the "No Drinking Day" official.

What a joke...trying to get the the World Health Organization to make it official is just a publicity tactic....within Thailand to make it "official" the Public Health Minister, the Cabinet and/or the Prime Minister only need to make it official. So, Khun Health Minister, go ahead and make it official; don't worry about whether WHO pats you on the back or not...just do it.

How about February 30th?

I'll second that.

Yeah, right. That'll work... NOT.

How about making the Police get off their asses and enforce the current laws on drinking, and as long as we got them working they can start enforcing traffic laws, especially the drinking and driving related laws. And none of that 100 baht to forget it crap.

As for Songlran... limit it to one day nationwide (and same day everywhere) and ban the water throwing and use of high pressure squirt guns

Jeeze, what a bunch of useless buffoons these people are.

To acknowledge the mastermind behind this brillant idea, and the brillance displayed by this entire group of politicians,

I propose a 1 day firearm open season on politicans, nation wide. This would be combined with the non drinking day proposed. An Additional open season day could be added as a bonus to any and all additional laws, rules, suggestions made by members of government, that center on a specific day of the year.
