My neighbor with emphysema and recent pneumonia was advised by his doctor that he should have a supply of oxygen at home for recuperation and emergencies and we just priced the equipment at Pharma Choice and the oxygen is quite cheap, but the delivery and valve systems are expensive.

Maybe someone has some used equipment they would sell??

or anyone know of any used hospital equipment shops??

Thanks in advance.........

I have an oxygon extractor that I use at night as I don't get enough oxygen while sleeping. It comes with a 50 foot hose and there is or was two models when I bought mine one up to 5 liters of oxygen a minute and the other up to 8 liters of oxygen a minute. I got them at one of the pharmacies across the street from Siraphat hospital. When you leave the hospital cross the street and turn right I believe it is the second pharmacies You will have to ask for it as they keep it in a box.

They are not cheap but you never have to do any thing with them other than plug them in and put a little water in them. Also occasional change the filter.

They also have an attachment to hook up a nebulizer. supposed to be better than puffers,

I purchased mine 4 years ago and use it every night. I had to have it repaired once and they took it and sent it to Bangkok cost was 10,000 baht for repair and shipping.

You can buy them on line a lot cheaper but I don't trust one I can not have repaired here. Not sure if they are cheaper after shipping and customs gets added onto them. Also I am not sure of how much Oxygen they generate Mine is 8 liters and cost 5,000 baht more than the 5 liter one.

Good Luck

One other thing when I was looking at oxygen bottles I was told for my needs they would have to be refilled about every three days and there was not a service to do that it was up to me to get the bottles into them.

That was four years ago and I did not look that hard for a service to do it.I am pretty sure welding shops just have a service that comes around and replaces them. You might want to look into renting the equipment from a place that supplies welding supplies. The hose to your nostrils can be purchased at many different pharmacies.

Thanks HD.....we went to the main Pharma Choice on the San Kapheng rd and they did have those oxygen extractors in 3 sizes from 3 lit/minute to 8 lt/min and the smallest started at thb20K. didn't know they had a 50 ft hose.

I think that the shop you're talking about is a branch of Pharma Choice.

He is on the puffer already so that is a plus that it has a nebulizer. That would be a much easier system to deal with, as the bottles don't last long and they don't deliver them. The price of the delivery system was thb5k and all the tank refills could add up fast as he said the medium size only lasts 5 or 6 hrs and the big bottle only lasts18 hrs and it would take at least 2 guys with strong backs to move it.

Maybe someone has 2nd hand one of the units that you describe for sale??

These are good friends and are on a tight budget and I'm just trying to help them in any way I can.

HD, I posted at the same time as you, so missed your last.........good idea with the welding shops, but still have to buy the valve/delivery system. You would think that a city as big as CM would have medical supply rental shop. I went thru the same ordeal when caregiving my father and had to buy a hospital bed with a special air mattress that cost big thb.

A follow up on my neighbor's oxygen situation. He was released from the hospital today and they bought a

Yuyue min oxygen concentrator 7F-3

from Pharma Choice and it is up and running and supplying his needs for now, but we are wondering how best to deal with power outages. The power consumption of this unit is 350VA [watts?].

My first thought is to buy a 500 watt 12v dc to 220v ac inverter that I've seen at Armon electrical store under the old Carrefour and a car battery and charger for when the power goes down as it regularly does during the rainy season. Any thoughts on this idea??

thanks in advance.................

Not familiar with the model is that the one you mentioned that produced 3 liters a minute.

As for power outages they never last long perhaps you could locate one of those little bottles that you can carry with you or have a little cart they can be set on. Have no idea where to get one.

The place I saw the oxygen bottles at was the Pharma save on the inside of the moat on the East side of the old city.

It was in between Loi Kroh and Thai Pai road.

Good luck.

Yes, it is a 3 lt/min, but dr suggested 1.5 lt for sleep. We may take your advise and consider cost of the back up power bank vs the cost of an extra bottle with all the equipment required....regulators etc.

Thanks HD..........
