Anyone got experience with e above.

I flew out phuket to kl and thought the same rule as in Bangkok might apply.

But the very polite and friendly immigration people charged me 500 baht.

Yes, 500 Baht is the charge. This charge may be waved, from what I understand it is waived routinely but not always in Bangkok, but normally not waived in Phuket.
