What Are "illegal Modifications" To Motorbikes?

Featured Replies

what constitutes an "illegal modification" to a motorbike? my girlfriend came by when i was studing the layout of a motorbike that had all the body work striped off. i was comtemplating how to turn such a bike into a chopper - stretched and extended front end, hard tail, forward set pegs, the whole thing. (i know i know, a 125cc honda does not in any way equate to a harley chopper) she said that you could not ride the bike i was looking at in town - if policeman see you, they will give you a ticket - for lack of body work i guess.

does this mean i couldn't build a 'chopper' and have it legal? or would i only be able to ride it in the village - where there are no cops?

before i start fixing up HER bike, i should know what is legal and what isn't.

thanks

From what I've seen operating round here, illegal mods would include:-

Tyres with tread

Silencers with baffles

Lights that light

Horns that hoot

Operational brakes.

I suspect that the 'law' states that any changes from the manufacturer's standard is not permitted.

Bro. in law is always pissing about with bikes, I'll see if he knows (don't hold your breath though).
