I have a Nonimmagrant, catagory "O", Multiple entry, Visa issued from Dallas, Tx on April 5, 2013.

It states that I must enter before April 4, 2014, I got here on May15th, 2013.

I have been told that I will need to make a "boarder run" after being here 90 days to extend my Visa for the last (nearly) 30 days of my stay.

As I look at my Visa now I see nothing that seems to indicate this requirement.

I plan to leave Sept, 11th, 2013.

Must I do this (boarder run)?

If so, what is the best way to accomplish it?

I am in Chiang Mai.

Check your arrival stamp.

It has a date when your permission to stay ends.

The border check point in Mae Sai is the preferred border run from Chiang Mai.

There are visa runs companies that arranges day trips there.

You should have the above stamp and a date 90 days from entry as your permitted to stay - you must exit by that date and return to get a new 90 day permitted to stay if you want to continue to use visa. If you qualify and meet the financial conditions you could extend during the last 30 days of any entry for one year at immigration inside Thailand.

You need to leave after 90 days stay.

Hi. As others have suggested when you entered Thailand in May, Immigration would have stamped a 90 day period in your passport. This will take you into mid August. You need to do visa run best a few days prior to the date in August to qualify for another 90 days. There are many companies who will pick you up, take you to the border and handle the paperwork for you. You basically present yourself to Thai immigration to stamp your passport as leaving Thailand. Have your passport stamped as entering your next country eg Loas. then simply present yourself to Thai immigration again and they stamp your passport to re-enter Thailand granting another 90 days. I have done a few runs to Cambodia and really depending on where you go, the immigration process can take as little as 45 minutes or less. The travelling to and from the border is where your time is most spent. The date "Enter before April 14 2014 is the last time you can get another 90 days on your visa. It's not the final day of your stay.

Here is my situation. My "O" visa has a enter date before September x 2013. As I have been here since October 2012 I have done a couple of visa runs. My next is due at the end of July and I will get another 90 days stamped. My next 90 days will be the months of August, September, October but my "O" visa expires in September? The solution because its a multiple-entry "O" is just before the expiration date in September I do another visa run for another 90 days which will then be October, November, December. That's well past September. Multiple entry "O" visa's mean you can get 90 days on each entry. It doesn't mean you have to stay 90 days before having to leave. You could stay 30 days out of your 90, leave Thailand for a period and return again to receive another 90 days. Thus multiple entry and the benefits of non-imm "O" visa's. Just remember the date in April 2014 is the last time you can get another 90 days. After that you need to consider different alternatives like extensions of stay based on marriage or retirement visa's etc but this is heading off topic.

Quick clarification. My "O" visa was issued in September X 2012 with an enter Thailand date before September X 2013.

A one year multi-entry non immigrant O visa is good for one year from the date it is issued..

The day you actually enter Thailand for the first time with that visa doesn't make any difference.

The day stamped "must enter before .....(date) ...." is the expiration date of your visa.

Now, each time you enter Thailand you get a entry stamp for a 90 day stay as long as that visa has not expired.

You must do a border run before that entry stamp expires .... exit and re-enter and you will get another 90 day "permitted to stay" stamp.

Now, you're visa expires one year after it is issued .... the "must enter before" date.

You can extend it to a 15 month stay, by leaving 1 day before that expiration date. You will get your final 90 day "permitted to stay" stamp.

So you can therefore effectively get 15 months stay out of a one year multi-entry Non immigrant O visa.

Just remember .... border run every 90 days to get another stamp.

Final border run 1 day before expiration date to get final "permitted to stay until " entry stamp.

You could go to Mae Sai, which is in the north and go into Burma. The other option, considering that you're in CM would be Vientiane/Laos.

Final border run 1 day before expiration date to get final "permitted to stay until " entry stamp.

If during this last period one leaves the country and enters again by air , is the "permitted to stay until" then reset to 30 days ?

Maybe my question was not so clear: example if the visa expires say 14 august, I enter the country on 13 august, I will get 90 days i.e. can stay till 13 november.

I fly to HK on 14 september and return the same day, will the 13 november still be valid, or will it be reset to 14 october ?

You must obtain a re-entry permit prior to travel to return to the same permitted to stay date - without your visa entry ends and any new entry will require a new visa or visa exempt stamp. So for most nationalities it would only be a 30 day entry on return if you do not obtain a re-entry permit before travel (from immigration office or airport).
