I'm due for yet another visa run at the end of the month and intend to go back to Cambodia to complete it. Can anybody suggest a good place to stay with access to some sight seeing that is still local enough to immigration to complete my visa run? I would like to have a bit of a look around with my Thai wife, (she has her passport) and try and avoid the "balls in your mouth" 160klm an hour day trip most of us have previously experienced. We are currently in Pattaya. Also if you have used a travel agency and was happy with their service that allowed you to achieve the same as I am asking, could you please let me know. Thanks.

Don't waste ur money on a travel agent!!!

phnom penh takes 3 days to do the tourist visa,

ur wife gets 15 days if arriving by land

check out the se asia section for Cambodia, I lived there an go back quite often, Am heading there soon ( am in Vang Vieng Laos now driving down to Siem Rep)

I usually stay on street 172 1 block from the Palace and plenty fo good restuarnts an only a block to riverside

Make it an extended trip and go see Angkor wat

OR are u only talking a turnaround ???

and if so stay the night at the casino in Poi Pet apx 5 hours driving from Pattaya

Its a shit hole town

Cross in Trat into Koh Kong, lost of nice places in that part of Cambodia. Avoid Aranyaprathet/Poipet, it's the worst town in Cambodia by far, a complete dive.

Take a Thai language course and get a 1-year visa. Then no need for visa runs.

Yes I could do this. I appreciate that ed-visa's eliminate the need to do them. My border runs will cease soon however as I have a non-imm "O" visa and soon I will be able to apply for an extension of stay based on marriage with the financials up-to-date. I didn't originally mention it as this was a travel question not a visa question. Anyway not to worry. This info can always be passed onto someone else looking for a solution to eradicate the visa run process. thumbsup.gif

The Dead Fish Tower in Siem Reap was fun to stay at. They have regular rooms and multi level restaurant with tree houses you can stay in. (You'll have to climb down for a late night pee) At the bar/restaurant the mens bathroom is located over a pit of crocodiles. Don't try this when your stinking drunk. You are encouraged to toss any leftover food on your plate into the pit. If you like bacon, they have a plate with about 20 strips on it. I thought I was ordering a side dish. Great food. And right in town.

Excellent post pal. Sounds very interesting although balance isn't one of my best attributes when I'm Mow. Glad crocs can't climb tree's either. Worth a look I'm sure. thumbsup.gif

Dam. That's a shame that they changed hands. Yeah, it was about 7 years ago that I was there, Was looking forward to staying there this year.

If you take a course and get a 1 year visa. What happens if you don't attend? What are the prices for a course?

Cheers

went looking for it as wanted to show my daughter the crocs.

Everything the same( seating on the floor or chairs on multi levels) but no hotel and no crocs and live music as well and the food is very good

Have a look under the heading Thai Language in this forum. You could even have a look at the "Walen" sponsor link. Not sure about attendance rules but a ed-visa could cost you around 25-30,000 Baht per year. I think you still need to see immigration every 90 days to extend your visa at an additional cost. Research will be the key. Hope this helps.
