Hi Folks.

We are moving to BKK from Pattaya and we would like to find an insurance agency for health and car (both of them are expiring at end of August, so it would be really nice if we can renew with a new agency in Bangkok).

if you know a good and reputable agency in Bangkok, please help us out.

Thanks and have a great day!

I recently moved my car insurance to AA Insurance, one of the sponsors here. I was happy with their communications, but have had no claims yet, so no idea what happens when you need them. Indications are positive though.

Just to clarify for the OP, AA Insurance Brokers is not an insurance company but rather (as the name indicates) insurance brokers. They can help you with your insurance needs, but the actual insurance will not be with them but with a separate insurance company.

I'm not sure if its a good idea to look for one company to cover both health and car insurance. You may get a better deal by looking at the two separately.

Yes, they are brokers, which is what the OP asked for (Insurance agency).

Yes, they are brokers, which is what the OP asked for (Insurance agency).

I understand two completely different things by "broker" and "agency".

An agency is the local office of an insurance company. It deals with claims and exclusively sells its own products. It sends out representatives to accidents.

A broker arranges cover from many different insurance companies in return for commission. It does not pay claims (though a good one may assist the client who is making a claim, and then forward the claim form to the insurer).

It is quite correct to say Broker and Agent are different animals.

The 2 different levels are determined by the licenses issued by the OIC.

Agent/Agency has a license which allows a single insurance companies’ products to be sold.

Broker has a license which allows any insurance companies products to be sold.

For a Company to hold a Broker’s license, 5 of the staff have to hold individual Brokers licenses

I use MBMG International and they are cheaper than AA ( I have just renewed my car insurance- 3-4k less than AA). Ask for Jack Levey 038424534. They are on Pattaya Tai just past duck square.

An agent may be either an independent company or person or one representing one or very few insurance companies. some may be directly employed by an insurance company. They cannot offer objective advice and are often more focussed on sales than finding the right product for each client. Banks, for example, are agents for either one insurer or a small selection and their employees are paid to push sales, not advice.

A broker will have an arrangement with as many insurers as his company sees fit with the aim of being able to offer clients a wide choice of similar products. His job is also to help the client make his choice and to help him subsequently with questions and any dispute with the insurer. That seems to be rarely the case with agents.

There are several good brokers in Thailand for all kinds of insurance and so there is no need to take the risk of either using an agent or going direct to an insurer. Additionally, there is nothing to gain by becoming one's own amateur broker when making a choice of product.

Thanks for the explanation. Where I come from the 2 words broker and agent were used for the same thing, the only difference being a broker dealt in commercial risks and an agent in personal lines. But both working independently of the insurance company, just as the broker you describe.

In some countries, regulation has defined and clarified the difference between agent and broker. Regulations are often more or less the same for commercial and personal lines now with those for personal lines being more stringent as regards disclosure of insurers' terms. UK law clearly defines the difference between a broker and an agent.

MSH INTERNATIONAL is an international health insurance company and they have an office in Bangkok, at the Ploenchit BTS Station.

Here is their website: http://sea.msh-intl.com/

They are not an Agency/Broker which was asked for - so canot offer the full range of policies

My bad, but agency can mean anything, he did not ask for a broker either.

Some people prefer to go straight to the insurance company, some through a broker. Well, it's up to him, at least he has the choice now.
