About to renew non imm o based on marriage.

Just noticed that at current exchange rates my pension comes up about 1000bt a month short i.e. 39k a month not 40k. Total is still over 400k a year but my understanding is that if that is not in a thai account the monthly income must be 40k?

Can i mix and match by showing money in a thai account to make up the shortfall or is it an either or situation?

I dont have 400k in a thai bank at the moment so that route is a non starter and if i moved money from the uk it would not be on deposit long enough.

I suppose i could always hope for a 2bt rise in the exchange rate within the next week or so.sad.png

This might be the time to just give up and become one of the many taking the chance on being allowed out with just a 20k fine when i eventually leave.

it is an income of 40,000 a month OR 400,000 in the bank in Thailand for at least 2 months. Only if over 50 can you can use a combination of income and money in the bank in Thailand, but than it must be 800,000 baht together (and you apply based on retirement).

You can get a 60 day extension based on marriage, giving you time to transfer and season the money in the bank.

Thanks Mario

A 60 day extension it is then, or maybe my luck will change and that exchange rate dream will come true, please i only need a 2bt rise. Second thoughts it will definitely be a 60 day extension then.

As said try to find the best exchange rate you can use - normally they will accept anything in print rather than insisting on lowest. Then if not enough get the 60 day extension for breathing room. Do you have other income such as savings ech year that could be added by your Embassy to increase the total?

Yes I have savings but not in Thailand so not sure if the UK embassy will accept them but i will certainly try.

thanks for the advice.

Looked at the link and depending on which bank they use I could be 1bt closer than i thought. many thanks.

Fingers crossed for a rise in the value of the GBP over the next few days.

This is probably answered somewhere else so apologies in advance.

Do i have to leave the country re-enter get 15 / 30 days then apply for a 60 day extension or can i just apply locally without leaving the country?

Income does not have to be in Thailand. Normally an embassy accepts intrest as income.

The embassy only certifies income from outside Thailand. Income from within Thailand is proven with tax documents.

Thanks again Mario the interest should make up the shortfall.

Now comes the hard part of getting all the paperwork in time. At least i know i can stay legal albeit with a little more hassle than usual.

I will still need to get the 60 day extension while i wait for bank paperwork.

I should be so lucky, every year i have done it so far the immigration officer has always been thorough. I think they have enough of my wedding photos to start their own album.

You should be able to get one such extension on whatever else you currently have - they just will not issue 60 day extensions on top of another 60 day extension without a new entry.

Has anyone actually done extension using income (sources other than employment) from within Thailand?

Immigration has refused to look at my tax documents unless accompanied by Work Permit and corporate registration and other docs.

Time Traveller, for what reason is your extension?

New problem

I won't bore with details but getting money transferred or even proof of interest on savings is not possible in time.

I now have a plan z which i would appreciate advice on.

Early next year my income will rise and easily meet the monthly requirements so if possible i need to muddle through with extensions until Feb.

My plan is to get a 60 day extension which will take me to the end of Sept then leave the country for few days and try to get a tourist visa somewhere like Laos which i hope would give me another 60 days. I would then leave again and try for 1 last 60 day tourist visa which would take me up to the stage where my income will be acceptable.

The questions i have are:

Can I get 1 or even 2 tourist visas after having already got the 60 day extension based on my marriage while in Thailand.

Will there be any problems as i have had marriage extensions in Thailand. i.e. Why are you here in Laos/Cambodia when you normally sort it out directly with Thai immigration.

Any advice will be appreciated

Might the OP just as well seek a multi-entry non-O visa on marriage grounds if he is going to somewhere like Laos in any event? If I understand the position correctly that could effectively buy him another 15 months before he needs to start applying here for annual extensions of stay again - by which time his present income constraints should be well behind him.

Or does this procedure only work for retirement?

It would work for marriage - that is what most are using it for. So an option - would need to have marriage certificate/copy and copy of wife ID card and home register and apply for multi entry non immigrant O visa at Savannakhet. This would allow 90 day stays for one year validity and during the last 30 days of any entry could be extended for Thai wife at immigration if can meet the requirements.

You are a godsend

Am I right in thinking you are saying all i need to do is leave the country come back getting a 15 / 30 day stamp and then i can extend each time for a further 60 days based on marriage?

If so can you do this for ever ? as it may well be worth it for the enforced holidays it imposes rather than the hassle of all the marriage extension each year. I think a trip away every 75 or 90 days is probably more enjoyable than getting all the docs together once a year worrying about income proof etc especially when you factor in the 90 day reporting that accompanies it.

My stupidity is just from fear and loathing of the intimidating atmosphere at my immigration office than any natural defect. Even if my friends would say otherwise.

Again many thanks.

Sorry didn't see recent posts before sending last entry.

Does Savannakhet require income proof as if so i would be back to square one, but thanks for the idea OJAS

Savannakhet currently does not require income proof so I would use that as first option - if they change by the time your get there believe the exits/60 day extensions your best bet.
