Passport expires, extension still possible?

Hi everybody,

My retirement visa expires on 2 october 2013. Getting an extension is no problem, and the new extension (I am going to change my retirement visa into a marriage visa) would be valid till 2 october 2014.

However, my passport expires on 15 october 2014!!

Question: can I expect some problems with getting the new extension because my passport expires on 15 october 2014? (somewhere next year I am renewing my passport).

There is no problem in getting an extension of stay till 2 Oct. 2014.

But for the extension on 2014 it is best you get a new passport long before that. In case of emergency travel, some countries will want to see a validity of at least 6 months.

What would happen in oct 2014 if you don't get a new passport before, is that you get an extension till your passport expires, (15 oct 2014) and before that date you show your new passport and get the rest of the extension placed in the new passport.

What nationality are you? If you are a Brit you can renew your passport up to 9 months before the expiry date, and your new passport will still be valid until 15 October 2024.

Thanks a lot! I was afreight that my passport also needed a year + 6 months for the extension. I intend to renew my passport around april 2014, that's 7 months before the extension in 2014. Good to know that it's no problem for this year extension! I am Dutch and I think they refuse a new passport when the old one is still valid for more than a year. Our passports are only valid for 5 years.
