OS, Win 7 Home Premium.

A single left click of my mouse acts as a double click, I have gone through Folder Options and ticked the box “Double-click to open an item (single click to select)” but that does not solve the problem .

This is annoying as I’m being taken all over the place with a single click, any suggestions.

as a general quick fix, uninstall the related mouse driver ( from device manager ), restart the system and let the windows reinstall the driver.

by the way, do you able to swap the mouse onto another computer, or plug in another mouse to the existing computer, just check if the problem is hardware related.

if problem comes back, then need further diagnostic.

Possibly a faulty mouse. I've had this problem with a cheap and nasty mouse that came free with my notebook. Chinese rubbish, as usual. I tried all the usual fix-it tricks but nothing worked. A new mouse was the answer - they are cheap enough so it's not worthwhile messing around. As a previous poster suggested, you could try the offending beastie on a different machine - that should tell you if it's the mouse that's sick.

Try going into mouse settings in control pannel and reverse the buttons. If the problem disappears then it probably is the micro switch in the mouse. I had an expensive mouse and ordered the switch on ebay and they sent it to Thailand postage free and for about $3 for the switch. You can take apart the mouse and get the part number and search on ebay for the part. They normally come from China and many mice have the same switch.

I took my mouse and switch to Pantip Plaza and found a repair shop that unsoldered the old switch and replaced it with the switch I ordered. Note: it's very possible that a repair shop in Pantip or maybe you or a friend may be able to salvage a switch from an old mouse. The repair was only 100 baht.

So, $3 (+/- 90 baht) for the switch and 100 baht for the repair. Seems a tad steep for a Chinese-manufactured mouse. Big C would be a wiser choice, and far less frustrating.

I would agree if it was an el cheapo mouse, but it is worth the cost if you have a good quality high end mouse. I paid about $75 for my optical laser RF mouse about 6 years ago.

As said most likely the mouse switch is bad and not worth trying to fix. I (after about 3 cheap 300 baht attempts from supermarkets which were all bad either switch or scrolling) paid about 900 baht for a Logitech m325 wireless model and very glad I did - every good control, it works, light is not on when not moving so lasts forever.

Thanks everybody, thats good news, I was thinking about reinstalling the OS when I get back home, I'm offshore at the moment but maybe I can get a mouse from one of my colleagues, again thanks very much.

could be the switches are too sensitive ? so wear and tear fixed the problem for me

Funny i asked the same question a few months back, as was getting fed up with forever buying a new mouse.... at the time that mouse click 1x would open 2x and that mouse cost 860 baht...... at the time binned about 10 old ones and kept about 4 which were not to bad....

As I remember almost everyone said buy a descent mouse and the brand that came up most was RAZOR the model most said they used is 4,999 baht.. !!

So thought maybe I was the only person using a cheap mouse.........5k for a mouse !! bought another Logitech cost 699 baht, not sure if that was even 6 months ago and already has just started to play up guess another month will be unusable..

The Razor is the Cadillac of gaming mice and the cost reflects it. My Logitech MX518 gaming mouse, the one where the button started acting up, was several years old and cost around 2600 Baht. I'm not surprised the left mouse button started failing as I play a lot of FPS games usually hours on end and can't imagine the number of clicks that button must have had. I wanted to get another MX518, have one at the office also, but they are no longer sold. Found there was an exact replacement with newer enhancements and that was the Logitech GS400 gaming mouse. Surprised it was only 990 Baht and feels identical to the MX518. Best mouse I've ever had (MX518 and now GS400).

I mistyped the model number and it was G400. I got mine at Invadeit.com but they only show the G400s which is an enhanced version and 1390 Baht. Reviews are not positive on the G400s but they are on the G400. They indicate the cost difference isn't worth it. Might contact Invadeit and see if they can get their hands on the G400. This is what it looks like.

I've revived a mouse or two by spraying in contact cleaner. Fit the tube under each button and give a shot.

Sometimes worn feet cause "mysterious" problems that lead a user to replace the mouse. But you can simply replace the feet.

If I were buying a new mouse, I'd buy quality, such as Logitech. Last longer, buttons easier to press, etc.
