Where to buy and old beater

Featured Replies

Can anyone recommend a place where one could find a cool old Jeep, Suzuki Samaurai, old Benz, Land Cruiser, or something of that sort?

If the place was online, or in Chiang Mai, that would be best as I am in Chiang Mai, but I would be open to looking in Bangkok if there was a good place.

I would also be interested in any suggestions about the best types of vehicles (in the cool old beater class ;-) to look for here in terms of what's going to be easy to repair, get parts for, etc.

Thanks in advance!

Jeff

Bahtsold.com. There's tons of other ones out there, too. But it's in English.

Edit: I forgot to mention, be prepared for sticker shock. The "old beaters" you've mentioned are "classic beauties" here, no matter what shape they're in.

Good news is that it's cheap to get them fixed, bad news is it's very expensive to keep them original.

There are no tents I know of that specialize in beaters (where's the profit?), so I guess you're going to have take a drive around and look for cars on the side of the road for sale.

In Chiangmai, your best bet will be along Doi Saket Road, and Hang Dong Road I expect. There's a place that fixes old American & Japanese beaters around KM 3-5 on Doi Saket Road, so you might find something interesting there..
